Multiple bathroom waste connections into stack

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice on designing multiple new waste connections into an internal soil pipe. I'll have 3 wastes (sink, shower, bath) that I want to join into a single 50mm pipe (running at a slight downward angle on a horizontal. The 50mm pipe then connects into the internal...

Connecting kitchen waste and drainpipe to new manhole

Hi Woody - that i Thanks Woody. That is an option but not sure I want to put the pipe hidden in the concrete floor (if that's what you meant?). The pipe will be coming out the wall at a very low level anyway.

Connecting kitchen waste and drainpipe to new manhole

Thanks for the replies. I think it will need to be a 450mm wide chamber as the depth will be over 600mm. Also I think the chamber will need to have side entrances, as it will be difficult to make the pipework run into inlets which face away from the wall. What I'm still not sure of is why...

Connecting kitchen waste and drainpipe to new manhole

Hi all, I'm currently having an extension but I'm doing a fair bit of the work myself as well. Anyway one of the bits I'm doing is putting a new manhole in. I've replaced a clay run with plastic. This comes out of part of the extension at 90 degrees. If you look at my picture, you can see the...

    Cleaning mud off new foundations

So an update. I spent several hours tonight digging two reasonable sized holes next to the foundations, and then had great fun pouring buckets of water onto the concrete and sweeping muddy water into the holes. End result is I no longer have a layer of mud/silt, but I still have brown concrete...

    Cleaning mud off new foundations

I do have small holes that I've dug out that I put the pump into for pumping out. I might end up having to make them a bit bigger for the purpose you describe. They're still full of water mind you. Its solid clay here...nothing at all soaks away.

    Cleaning mud off new foundations

Thanks for the replies. Jet wash I do have, but would probably create just the same issue once things have settled down. I'll have a try of the broom and shovel idea, thanks.

    Cleaning mud off new foundations

Hi all, I've recently dug out my footings and have now had the concrete poured. The concrete doesn't come up to the top, and has set nicely. We've had a huge amount of rain in the days since it was poured which caused them to turn into canals, and some of the mud sides have caved in. I've...

Replacing clay drain with plastic - backfill question

Hi, It goes down the side of my house. This was previously built over with a lean-to side passage, but I'm currently replacing that with an extension. So ultimately it will have a concrete floor above it. There will be 500mm of soil though below the concrete floor, before it gets to pipe...

Replacing clay drain with plastic - backfill question

Thanks Agile Anyone else have any information on what "granular material" can be interpreted as? Cheers

Replacing clay drain with plastic - backfill question

Hi, I'm replacing a leaky stretch of clay underground pipe with plastic. The run is around 5m in length and around 0.5m under the ground. My question is around backfill. The clay pipe is currently just in the soil. It is sitting on firm soil/clay soil. I understand I should lay the...

Two steel beams (one on each leaf) versus One single beam

Thanks for the extra info. You originally said 700-1800 per lintel so I was imaging at least 700 * 2, but 700 all in seems very reasonable especially with all the mods described. Do you know why they specified it be galvanised?

Two steel beams (one on each leaf) versus One single beam

No it won't do. Would that make the price go into the £1400+ bracket (£700+ per beam) spoken about above)? I wouldn't have thought so? If so then I go back to my original question. Is two beams therefore worth it?

Two steel beams (one on each leaf) versus One single beam

Thanks for the replies guys, that's helped me make my mind up. cjard - those quotes, were they just for the steel or installing the steel too? They just seemed higher than I was expecting if it was just the steel. For example at http://www.parkersteel.co.uk a 6.1m length of 203x133x25...

Two steel beams (one on each leaf) versus One single beam

Hi all, I'm currently in conversation with my structural engineer about design and calcs required for creating a 5m gap in the back of my house into a new extension. He has come up with two options: Option 1. This will see two steels. One for the inner leaf and one for the outer leaf...

Where does a structural engineers role end? Advice please.

Cheers for the replies. If it needs a return then I'm OK with that. I'll let the SE advise on that one.

Where does a structural engineers role end? Advice please.

Hi noseall - thanks for replying. The main reason for asking originally was that I was trying to avoid unnecessary costs. The SE's seem to charge per the beam, so getting them to do the lintel above the bifolds was something I was hoping I could avoid. If it needs a pro though, then it needs...
