    Boiler anti cycling

I have a Worcester greenstar 28 CDI compact. My nest didn't turn the heating on tonight in time for us to get home so it was 16 degrees rather than the 22 the missus likes. By half 9 the house still hadn't hit the target temp which seemed odd so I went to look at the boiler. The blue light was...

Un-bonding solvent weld - sink waste pipe

Solvent weld fuses the two bits of plastic together so you can't really 'un-weld' them. You could try cutting across the joint and then trying to split it off but it may not work.

    Bath tap diverter

I have a set of bristan bath taps with a shower head and the pull up diverter for the shower keeps sticking. When it first happened it was about 8 months after we got the taps. I took the diverter apart and soaked it in limescale remover and sprayed into the tap to clean the sealing areas as...

    Boiler leak and error

Aaah now I understand. Is this something that should be checked /cleaned as part of the annual service?

    Boiler leak and error

The condensate pipe? It goes in to a drain outside, no evidence of any leak from it.

    Boiler leak and error

I have a worcester greenstar 28 cdi boiler that is about 4 years old and when we got home today it was showing code EA 227. I went to turn it off and on again and discovered a small amount of water underneath the boiler (a film about the size of a fiver). I removed the control panel hoping it...

    Stains in satinwood

I'm painting my window boards in our small bedroom and they were originally stained brown. I sanded them and then used two coats of ronseal stain and knot block primer before putting two coats of satinwood on top. I've got light brown rings showing in the paint, what can I do to fix it?

    Keeping cable in chases

Not that he mentioned to me. He was here for just under 2 days and filled the chases on day 1 before skimming over the top on day 2. He left his tools overnight and I had a look at his trowel, the edges were so polished there didn't look to be any danger of cutting a cable. It was so smooth it...

    Keeping cable in chases

Bodged it up last night with some sheathing off some unused T&E I had so good to see someone else mentioning that (I was stuck at work too late yesterday to go and buy anything). The plastering is being done now and I haven't had a message to say there is a problem so fingers crossed. The...

    Keeping cable in chases

Can't get the cable clips into the bricks and they just fall out of mortar. Builders band looks to be the right sort of thing as long as it doesn't damage the plasterers trowel. In terms of accessories off the wall I've only seen them pulled forward and covered before but I'm not an expert...

    Keeping cable in chases

Not going to be able to get conduit in these chases. Would it be OK to use something like no more nails to hold them to the bricks so they don't pop out or will this damage the cable?

    Keeping cable in chases

The whole house was rewired in 2013 and the guy that did it just held them down with a couple of blobs of plaster. We have only now got round to decorating this room. All the cables are naked in plaster, does this cause a problem?

    Keeping cable in chases

I'm getting a room plastered on Tuesday so have unscrewed the faceplates for the sockets and light switch in that room and covered in plastic bags. I noticed that if you move the faceplate slightly the cable in the chases moves a little. Should I be securing them with anything to stop them...

    External Insulation DIY - questions

I didn't DIY mine but did a lot of research at the time and watched mine being done so have some knowledge. 3) I've seen the wooden block method mentioned a few times but everything on my house was re-fixed to the wall with long bolts through the insulation. Nothing has moved since...

    Grommet for flex cable

I've got some flex running through the side of a cabinet to a socket and want to tidy up where the cable passes through the cabinet. The cable is standard flex with the hole being a couple of mm bigger, can anyone suggest a grommet or something I can put in the hole to tidy it up?

External wall insulation, or, External Wall?

It cost £11.5k but under the green deal I paid £5.5k. They had 4-5 people on site for the days they were working but the price was clearly inflated because government were paying. I did have a section that needed to be covered with brick slips which added about £1k to the cost. I had to be...

External wall insulation, or, External Wall?

I'd imagine it's a lot quicker to use EWI than build new walls - our house had the bulk of the work done in 3 days then bits and bobs done over another 3 or so. Also less messy and disruptive.

    Help!

No one is going to be able to 100% confirm just by looking at it. You need to send a sample off for analysis (there's plenty of companies online that do this).
