I've just taken the covers of both 2 port valves and had someone switch heating a nd hot water on and off, both valves seem to be operating, but as soon as rads get slightly warm boiler switches off, so seems more like a thermostat problem, its a baxi back boiler

If you've ordered a replacement ball joint it should come with the correct replacement bolts with it (when the original is rivetted) unless you've ordered some cheap "white box" one which may not. As neo says a replacement wishbone is normally the most cost effective
