Update: Both South Staffs and Portsmouth have responded, unfortunately both have stated for addressee only so I can't copy and paste the replies. Basically both Councils are looking into the matter and will respond asap. I will let you know the outcome. Lets remember chaps they are public...

    HMO Testing

Interesting subject this HMO stuff. Most councils would expect the property to have a current PIR and that all equipment supplied by landlord is PAT tested. I looked at a couple of council websites after Googling. They were Pompey and South Staffs. Pompey stated the inspection must be done by a...

    Interesting Fault.

I had an interesting fault today please don't don't pillory for my contraventions of EAWR. Some months ago I bought a 3phase RCCB for a fiver and have wondered for some time if it was kosher. I was at a factory today with some spare time so I thought I would give it a test. There was TPN...

Stuck between a rock and a hard place

If I could give any advice to DIYERS who move into a house that needs updating: Before you chop down trees, before you put in new windows, before you put in new heating, before you do a lick of paint, before you skim a wall, before you tile, before you fit a new kitchen or bathroom, before you...

    Anomalous Tripping by RCD

If the RCD is not faulty, and it does sound ok then you are leaking current to earth somewhere. Have you done any DIY lately (screws or nails into floors walls ceilings)?. It could be you have 1 appliance leaking a fair current to earth and a kettle or washing machine is tipping it over the...

    Earthing questions

I would hope that all circuits are RCD protected under such arduous conditions

    Earthing questions

Also the fact that both the generators and the equipment have electrodes suggests that the installation is struggling to get a good earth. Also the 3v potential between earth and neutral could be caused by a number of factors. Earth leaky equipment like air conditioning, water heaters, fridges...

    Phase rotation

I tested it on a known system so I'm happy with that. It was supplied with a wrist strap.....owing to the poor instructions I hung it on the isolator for the test........no way was I going to have it strapped on my wrist!!!!!!! I tested it for correct and incorrect phase rotation and it does the...

    Phase rotation

The new requirement to confirm phase rotation under the 17th regs meant my test kit had a gap in it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I ordered a phase rotation tester from China. It works atreat. It has good display of a rotating disc (clockwise if ok) and 3 leds also confirm. Its as...

will cooker point cope with new cooker

We have made assumptions here....what is the breaker size, cable size, and does the switch have a socket?

will cooker point cope with new cooker

TTC I agree 100% with your sentiments. If I was installaing from new I would fit 2 circuits. However in this instance I think you can apply diversity as outlined in the OSG and be safe off a 32amp breaker. Applying diversity to his situation would give 25amps for his configuration. The...

will cooker point cope with new cooker

You should be ok.....presumably the circuit is run in 6mm2 and is protected by either a 30amp fuse or 32amp MCB at the consumer unit. The application of diversity will make this set up OK
