    Drayton Mid position valve

Amazing Seco!. They must just change the whole valve! As I'm basically of the electrical ilk I don't want to drain down a system etc etc when all that's needed is a quick actuator change!!

    Drayton Mid position valve

Karl, I was surprised yesterday. I went to a dealer in a town that I don't normally get parts from and when I asked for a Honeywell actuator head the guy said , "Oh I don't think we sell them." he had a look and found one which was all they had! He said that normally the plumbers that he...

    Voltage on Lighting Circuit

It sounds like you have an "induced voltage" i.e. it is coming from a nearby cable either electrostaticaly or magneticaly. This would happen even if you got a piece of cable, not connected to anything at either end and layed it next to some live wiring. A voltage is "induced" in that cable. This...

    Soldered joint on ring main-legal?

I did an apprenticeship and worked for some considerable time as an aircraft electrician and this is what we were trained to do and expected to be able to do at any time. Soldered joints could be used provided that they were securely mechanicaly joined before the solder operation (but after...

    burner cutting out

You are quite correct Alan, a badly blocked filter can give the same symptoms. The OP did say that he's "blead the supply line" which I hope means that he got a good oil flow. (If you want to double check flanders, disconnect the inlet pipe to the oil pump, hold the oil line over a container...

    burner cutting out

I agree with boilerman2 & holty. it sounds like the fuel solenoid is goig open circuit when it gets warm. If you have a multimeter you can check this straight after it cuts out. If not fit a new solenoid.

    AGA - the environment debate

The other day a TV documentary stated that the UK produced more oil per day than Kuwait, that production was high at the moment and that we had at least 40 years left of KNOWN supplies under the north sea! Why am I paying £1.05 per litre of diesel and next year am going to pay a massive CO2 tax...

    More RCD issues

There is another "DIY" test method that you could try. Buy a cheap 13A plug type RCD which you plug into your wall socket and then plug your suspect appliance into it. (Screwfix sell them for just under £7.00 and several stores like B&Q have them but they are a bit dearer.) The device...

    worcester oil combi 15/19

Sorry..typing error. I meant to put 115psi oil pressure. It looks like we have different year manuals gremlin. ( I have seen deviations in nozzle sizes / angles and so far out that it wasn't possibly someone trying to improve performance but just what they had on the van.) If you don't...

    Drayton Zone Valve Actuator

D-Hailsham is quite correct. It is probably the motor. If you are at all a DIY person then remove the Actuator head from the Valve and if nothing happens when you operate the controls or if the motor sounds rough or the actuator sticks, SWITCH OFF THE ELECTRICAL POWER and remove the actuator...

    Drayton Zone Valve Actuator

What he is saying is: the valve assembly is made up of two parts. "The Actuator Head", which is the cubical box with the electrics in and "The Valve Body" which is the brass mechanical valve. The spindle is inside the valve body and it should move freely. (It has a very small range of movement...

    worcester oil combi 15/19

Has your boiler got an Electro-Oil Inter B9B burner? ( The burner has an identification plate.) If so then it needs the oil pressure to be set at 155psi, Flue gas temperature should be 225Deg C, CO2 10.5%, approximate air setting 8.75.

Aqualisa Pumped Shower with Immersion Hot Water Tank

If your shower is "thermostatic", as the temperature of the hot water falls, it will decrease the amount of cold added to the hot at the shower head automatically for some time, until it cannot control any more. Before going for the longer immersion heater option why not have a practice long...

Mid Position Valve same as a 3 port valve?

Such a good explanation, that I have copied it into my "Pearls of Wisdom" notes. Thanks Bob!

Cables & junction boxes under bathroom floor - dangerous

Dean, "Access" means easy access using normal tools. It should be possible for an electrical inspection (which includes a physical inspection of terminations) to be carried out without removal of building structure. I had a similar case during my first "Periodic Inspection & Test" at a...

Drop in combi pressure - worcester bosch

I do oil boilers but hopefully I can help. There is probably a row of isolator valves on the pipes coming out of the lower side of your boiler. Check in your manual to see which is which or look in the following website to find your boiler...

Drop in combi pressure - worcester bosch

I'd check the Pressure Relief Valve before ripping up floor-boards. There should be a pipe from the boiler that goes through the outer-wall ending with just an open pipe, hopefully pointing downwards. If the Pressure Relief Valve is letting by, the water will drain out of this pipe. Put a...

Shaver socket in bathroom - hairdryer?

I was thinking of putting an Arc Welder in the bathroom. Will that run off of the usual Shaver Socket wiring Confederacy? 8)

    ELICTRIC TRIPPING RCD ECT.

It sounds like you are saying that although TVs, radios, fridges etc are plugged in and switching on and off they are not causing any problem? Is it only when you plug in AND switch on certain items that this problem happens? You mention a Lap-top and a Hoover ( vacuum cleaner?) what else, if...

Drain Cock Type A Heavy Pattern & Type B

Thanks from me too! I thought that I was the only person in the world who attached a hose-pipe to a drain cock and then had all the water go up my sleeve and over the floor instead of through the hose! In fact it's due to someone saving 25p during the initial fit!! :(
