I don't want to hijack this thread, but does anyone have any advice on the best home for this years ISA allowance?

    close call,boiler caught fire!

Yes but these are prices on an internet forum placed by engineers you will never meet and who won't install your water heater. The price you will pay will be the one quoted by the real engineer who actually turns up and will install the water heater. And by the way, since I won't be doing...

    Auto-fillers? where?

Where are these auto-fillers I keep reading about? I've never seen one for sale or installed. Can someone provide a link please? Ta

    New Boiler, and 15mm pipe?

Of course you are. You have already decided what unrealistic price you want to pay without knowing any of the issues. I will bet anything that you choose the lowest quoted price safe in the knowledge that any undersized gas supply will have to be upgraded at the (huge) expense of the...

    Installation Budget

I love it when customers know more than you. I also love it when they advise you to "keep the price keen". Both these things motivate me to really try to get that jpb. This ones better though. Two days at plumber rates. I'd say pay no more than £300 tops. Offer cash to try and get the...

To replace or not replace aging furnace.

I think you would be better off asking this question on a Canadian heating & plumbing forum. Personally though, if spares are still available for your old clonker then I would keep it. Also, haven't you left it a little late to try and get a good deal on a replacement? doesn't it get...

Hot water is warm, not hot!

Yes you are. You can confirm this by feeling the heat going to the rads when you are running hot water by holding the 22mm pipes under the boiler. Dunno which one is the flow on that particular box though.

Rad Valve Ever So Slightly Leaking

Hours trawling through posts? Just tighten it up a little bit. What's the worst that can happen?

Your knowledge required on new heating set up please

I agree. If I wasn't doing the job, I would certainly expect the person who was to do these for free as well.

    boiler gas leak

The people who post here are perhaps more conscientious than your local Corgi fitter. However, beware of internet advice. It's not these posters who are actually doing the work, The ones that are may be too busy or have better things to do rather than post on plumbing forums

    Room Thermostat advice

It's easy enough to change to a programmable RF room thermostat, but you have to be prepared to take the cover off the wiring centre. Basically, you disable the CH side of the LP 522, enable the RF receiver to switch 230V to the MV, pop the batteries in the programmer and job done. But...

    boiler and thermostat question

Most combi boilers require a volt-free connection via the room thermostat. Most room thermostats like the one pictured switch 230V. In situations like yours, I would usually fit a battery powered volt-free programmable room thermostat to replace the existing stat and using two of the wires -...

replacement of Honywell V4073A to Worcester Boiler

Well white should be connected to the call for heat terminal of the room thermostat and as the only colour you had left over was brown I would say that you were right. It sounds like you have a duff head / motor / something on the new valve.

    Boiler Thermostat Installation Question

On the Salus receiver, remove the link between live and common, if fitted. Remove the bridge from the PCB terminal strip (figure 15) and connect to common and NO on the Salus. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal. Power the receiver from the same supply as the boiler. Job...

MOTORISED VALVES - so many faults/diagnostics/remedies!

The action of manually opening the valve and securing it in position should also operate the microswitch which in turn should power the pump / boiler / whatever.
