So passing under (or over) a joist doesn't count as passing through? Don't know why I bother with safeplates, simply notch the underside of the floorboard and it's good to go eh?
Re RCD's - 531.3.4, 531.3.6 - the BS no for RCD spurs (can't recall the BS no off the top of my head) is not listed.
Your new work requires RCD protection and mechanical protection, per the regs i quoted. Unfortunately RCD spurs and sockets are not currently recognised by the regs (@securespark). JohnW2 please read 522.6.201-204 mechanical protection IS required for floors and ceilings.
The new works needs to comply with the current regs. So there's 2 regs that it needs an rcd for, and it needs mechanical protection too. The regs don't apply retrospectively to the whole circuit, the regs apply to the new work that is being done. If the plaster/board is thick enough you can...
it's single pole, switched neutral, or SPSN, or SP+N, I didn't make it up, they've been called that for years, but hey this is diynot so probably the 'discussion' (drivel) will run to 10 pages
this is a double pole RCBO...
they switch the neutral and line but only the line is protected by the mcb, an overload on the neutral only, for example, (weird fault but not impossible) wont trip the breaker
would probably cost the same to have someone competent install the breaker and do the testing than it would for someone to come out to test your diy (if you can even find someone willing to). The main switch should be OFF before you take off the cover... smh
Possibly not depending on how incomptetent the person who wired up the boiler is, someone good wouldn't have left the old controls live. It's possible things won't work correctly if you disconnect the wiring to the old timeclock. What do you have in the way of new boiler controls?
I also stopped using Wylex after their recall, but have started again as the new SPSN compact RCBO's are very good, and type A as standard (they are switched neutral, rather than true double pole). Hager are only single pole and a fault on one cricuit can cause tripping of other RCBO's. Hager...
Yes lever handle but I could rob the washer and use another 2" valve, it does look to be a different washer in the original lnk than other fluidmasters, at least in screwfix pics. The old valve that came with the cistern is a brass hinged flapper but the seal has turned to dust, might be...
The hole is 2 1/2"+, the cistern is very old. I think a 2" valve might work with a specialist shaped ruber washer but I haven't found one yet. The one in that link looks like it might work Andy, I'll maybe get it and see, thanks.
yee ha, no wonder the reputaton of the qualty of newbuild houses is so poor... sling them tails in the cavity and around the door, great job!... Why are you asking on here, ask your electrician what is acceptable to them. Sounds like you need SWA for a start.
