    toilet adjoining kitchen

Hi My dad is currently rejigging the position of the kitchen in his house. The new position of the kitchen would mean that there is a short corridor coming off the kitchen leading to a doored room which contains a toilet and washbasin. We have a similar arrangement in our house, though...

    insulation under the eaves

Hi We had a loft conversion done a few years back. unfortunatley some of the insulation blocks which were installed under the eaves have come loose and fallen. It seems like they were just wedged in and not secured. I was wondering what is the best way to secure these ? I have...

    cordless drill/screwdriver

thanks for the info I saw a nice reduced makita 14.4 volt there also. We have both makita and dewalt at work, both seem to be very well constructed, though I heard a rumour that the reliability of the switches on the recent dewalt's was not so great.

    finishing rough sawn timber

Thanks for the info Distemper is porous, but very expensive. My dad uses it on the walls in his very old house as the walls are constructed using lime mortar, and must be allowed to breath. I don't know whether matt emulsion might be ok for this.

    cordless drill/screwdriver

Hi Anybody got any recommendations on buying a cordless drill. My budget is around 50 quid. I don't' need hammer action, as have an sds stop drill. It will be mainly used for woodwork/screwdriving.

    finishing rough sawn timber

Hi We have recently had a loft conversion done. I have almost finished all the decorating, however i'm unsure what to do about the purlins, which are exposed in the new room. They are rough sawn unfinished timber. I was wondering whether I could dark woodstain these, or prime, and then...

Hi the ply was 12mm thick, with screws at about 200 mm centres. These were screwed onto exitsing floorboards

    flexible

hi am just finishing tiling onto a wooden floor (after putting down a layer of ply) I was wondering what grout would be suitable, presumably something flexible. a friend of mine metioned that there was a grout additive to add to normal floor grout to make it more flexible, but I've not...

    connecting a shower consumer unit.

Hi I did pretty much the same when I installed a Mira 9.0 kW shower last year and it is all up and running. Used a 30 mA RCD between the 40 A MCB in the consumer unit (I was limited to this as this was the maximum current MCB that was available for my consumer unit) and the DP swicth in...

preparation for tiling a wooden floor

Hi I am shortly going to tile a wooden floor and was wondering about the preparation required. I was planning on putting plywood over the existing floorboards, but am not sure what thickness to use. My DIY book says 12 mm, other doucments say a minimum of 18 mm. Also what hole...

    30 mA RCD

Do you think it would have been compliant 14 years ago ?

    30 mA RCD

Hi I think it is TT supply. The CU was installed 14 years ago, before we moved into the house. The 100 mA RCD was what was installed at that time. Are you saying it is non-compliant ? I did consider fitting a shower CU, and having a splitter and extra tails installed, but thought...

    30 mA RCD

Ok so this is what I'm planning to do: meter tails------100 mA RCD ------ Consumer Unit (40A MCB) ------ 30 mA RCD ------- DP Switch -------- shower. I'll only be fitting the 30 mA RCD, DP swicth and shower. Perhaps the 30 mA RCD is overkill, but it recommended in the Shower...

    30 mA RCD

Shower is 9 kW mira sport. Manual suggests using a 40 amp MCB with 30 mA RCD

    30 mA RCD

Thanks for the info As I'm a DIYer I will not attempt teeing them. I saw somebody get a massive shock off three phase once, so I am very cautious doing this sort of stuff. To go back to my main point, is it necessary to install a seperate 30 mA RCD in the cable going to the shower if...

    30 mA RCD

Yes I thought of that, but was not too happy fiddling with the meter tails. Is that allowed anyhow ?
