    Looking after trowel

Run your nail (Carefully) down the edge that is making the marks and you will probably find a "dink" or two so either get some emery paper or a fine file and rub gentle over the length of the trowel a few times till the "dinks" go. Had to do that with mine today as I started skimming and I...

Blocked up window-how to finish interior?

What I missed out on my earlier post was, the walls in Guernsey on the old house's and cottages are all Granite and usually about 20 inches thick so we always scratch coated it with sand and cement as a base and for the "One coat".

how long before we can use bedroom

If it's being skimmed over artex then it will be a thicker finish than normal so I would leave a window ajar after it has been done and you will see the dry patches occurring so once it starts drying then I would think you could sleep there..

On the last coat we sponge floated it up...

    Disappointed with finish

I disagree that tapered edged boards are weaker, used and handled right there's no problem with them. I also think you get a firmer joint on the edges by taping them and skimming flush with the boards before you skim .Just my opinion as I have used quite a lot of tapered edged boards, and always...

    Disappointed with finish

I used tapered edge boards when I re-built my bedroom (In my albums "New bedroom") and l plastered the joints so it was flush with the boards. I did the ceiling and walls and when I was ready to skim it all I painted the joints with "unibond) and skimmed over the lot.
