depends on your level of DIY skill and the model of shower. In general, if you turn off your cold mains stopcok, open the lowest cold tap and wait til water stops. Now using adjustable spanner or grips, open the compression fitting into the shower, remove and clean the filter then reassemble.

sounds like a blocked filter on the cold mains inlet to the shower

If we assume that being 16 years old, the boiler is a Baxi WM51/3RS or similar then I would be fairly confident that you have a problem with the gas valve. you need a CORGI i'm afraid.

The sensors are called thermistors and they cost about 15 quid, you need to drain the system/turn off mains cold water as they are located in wet-pockets. Common fault with ferroli optima. replace both thermistors as it saves you doing it again in 6 months time

first try switching off the mains to boiler, switch back on and it should reset.
