    Wylex fuse board

The pins are not as wide on the blue ones so you can't accidentally put a red 30A fuse in a 15A blue base.

    Wylex fuse board

Blue holder? Not a good idea, the electrician will advise and if possible replace with a red one.

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

Wasn't this electrician that rewired it was it?

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

If it is as bad as that it will probably fall to bits when trying to inspect.

    Wylex fuse board

If it was done today there would probably be more than 1 ring and even some additional radials for a property of that size.

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

The neutrals (in the chock block) are absolutely hanging!! Getting an electrician in to do an EICR (electrical installation condition report) or just a basic probe about would be an idea to see what the rest of the installation is like. If it is up to this standard then a full re-wire will be...

    Wylex fuse board

Sounds like too many high wattage appliances so the fuse did it's job

    Wylex fuse board

It could be a radial circuit where 15A is correct. Why did it blow, did she have lots of high wattage appliances running?

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

The cables don't appear to be PVC, are they lead? The inner insulation looks like VIR which has disintegrated. Looks like you need a proper spark in before you bother re-plastering!

Charging car battery on laminate work top.

Better off not charging a battery inside your house, they give off hydrogen which is explosive.

    Shed Power

6943X is SWA so it looks like no 1 and no 2 are similar in that respect, though 10mm SWA is usually only rated for 60A so no 1 is winning in my eyes! (We normally only use it up to a maximum temperature of 70°C, XPLE can be used to 90°C but needs special considerations for it's terminations...

It doesn't always, as many of us know.

    Hive heating wiring

Some combi boilers only have extra low voltage for the control circuit, if you shove mains voltage up it you could fry the boiler's main PCB. I'd stick with the idea of getting the correct one for the job.

    GE MCB, alternative?

Is the consumer unit rated to take the larger rating MCBs?

Live and Neutral have decided to swap

Could be along the lines of a high resistance earth and a L-E fault, the high resistance being from a fault or a TT system (with RCD issues). Either way, it needs a spark to check it out.

Combined central heating programmer and froststat?

Honeywell CM707 and CM907 have frost protection when set to off, they do run on batteries tho.

Extractor fan & towel rail - advice & legals

Zone 0 is in the bathtub so no. Above the bath up to 2.25m is zone 1. Although it may be allowed in zone 1 (you'll need to confirm with the manufacturers instructions) it is notifiable works to your LABC wrt the building regs, so you can either pay them to come and oversee it or get someone...

Broadband connection problem - only works via test socket

It's still odd that it leaves the main NTE5 socket in orange/white orange and arrives at all the extensions in blue/white blue. For the price of them I'd replace all the extension sockets. Any moisture in a PCB can wreak havoc.
