SWA terminated into CU - relying on metal case as sole earth connection

If the metal backbox is sunk then no need for the link as it is earthed via the screws.

    Meter cables

It looks like a voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker (voelcb) which was removed from the regs many years ago, 1985 iirc? The current operated versions are the way to go as the voelcb are not as effective with parallel paths to earth. I recommend getting an electrician to carry out an...

Tidy SWA (appears to be a duplicate thread)

SWA must be terminated using SWA glands. The SWA needs to be earthed correctly i.e. by using a gland+banjo or a gland+piranha at it's supply end. What is the conduit for, it is to cover the black SWA? 25mm gland sounds a bit big, how many core SWA?

Fused moulded plug to IEC with no replaceable fuse!?

I've never seen one like that too, it is likely a fake product. The only way to find out will be to open it up

New electrical cables in wall not in conduit

You could channel a bit of the noggin out behind the back box on the far side so it runs behind it.

    Earthing of meter

The safety notice on the clamp attaches under the screw/locknut, not on the end of the clip as it is now.

    shared supply earth issue

For a start, as yu know the Ze is unacceptable. My thoughts is as they are simultaneously accessible exposed conductive parts they ought to be bonded together. As it is a common supply I don't see why you cant have one large MET. I think the metal spreader ought to be earthed too, but that...

    RCD keeps tripping...

When he replaced the consumer unit he should have tested the circuits. What are the insulation resistance test results? With a separate consumer unit causing it to trip it smells of a N to E fault on one of the circuits attached to that RCD (or an appliance plugged into a socket circuit on it)...

I'm assuming you mean the one about a fuse and a light bulb that descended into pages of something which bears no relevence to fuses and light bulbs?

    100W lamp and a 500mA fuse.

Yep, I was questioning the 529Ω figure which is when it is hot which was quoted by Risteard who then said he hadn't read the question. My browser hadn't added your reply when I replied!

I'd go with number 3 too, you don't need chocky block as you can use the other two terminals (linked) for this.

Is this power lead and adaptor suitable for uk use - from china

Only a BS number (BS1363) as they are built to a British Standard, not an EN standard. That is a good thing to look out for on a plugtop when portable appliance testing, if it is a regular BS1363 plug with an EN number or a CE marking it is likely counterfeit. The adaptor in the original post...

Wanted: Reliable Wireless Plug-In Doorbell C/W 2 Receivers

Reliable and wireless don't go in the same sentence for me! I was forever changing batteries in the sender, that was with a Friedland model which I thought was the bees knees. How about a nice loud wired ding dong which makes the house shake!
