    earth loop impedence values

TBH it sounds like a typical British Gas job.. They come and carry out a gas safety check and as part of that plug in their "Socket & see" polarity/loop indicator.. and when it indicates >200ohms they don't understand the reading.. If I were you I'd get in a recommended electrician to do a...

    Controller overheating ??

So if I read the highlighted bit correctly your immersion heater will only ever get a supply between 12am and 7am.. if that's the case then you don't need the horstmann timer, just replace it with a DP switch?!?!

Makes sense now.. I must admit I thought you had E7 from a single meter & (timeclock or teleswitch).. this would be more expensive than std rate.. although you seem to have a hybrid!

TGQH though.. (EDIT.... TBQH though..) you may find that it will be easier to access in the garage; because once you've got your vacuum cleaner, ironing board, boxes of shoes and Christmas decorations in the cupboard they'll all be in the way!! Also as you'll be making a hole through a...

    Controller overheating ??

You really need to think about getting your tarrif changed as an E7 tarrif will be costing you a fortune, then you can use a standard immersion timer instead of an expensive "Horstman" type one you are using now. and yes, over time they can overheat

    shower cable under floor boards

using notches is not against regs so long as the cable has added mechanical protectionwhere it passes through the notch... like safe plates or 3mm steel plate such as http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Necessities_Index/Necessities~Cable_Protection/index.html
