    Redecorating bedroom

No offence take. This is what I used: https://www.toolstation.com/trimming-edge/p35714 and https://www.toolstation.com/olfa-snap-off-wallpaper-cutting-knife/p48883 I snapped off the blade after each drop. The bladd would cut fine and then snag, causing a small tear. I ended up going freehand...

    Redecorating bedroom

Well we did some papering over the weekend. A little daunting since it was our first time. Used Erfurt 1400 lining paper in the end. Easy to use. A bit trickier to cut with a blade (it would tear) so used scissors. Left one sheet to soak, cut and pasted the next one. A brush helped adhere it to...

    Plaster dust in drill

I’ve had fun chasing a wall to relocate a light switch. First time I’ve done that. I had to chase up behind the coving and used a long drill bit and my makita combi drill. Lots of dust everywhere. Now the chuck feels gritty and stiff to turn, and the selector switch is very stiff to move...

    Redecorating bedroom

I'm looking at lining paper. Is there a good brand and suitable "all-purpose" grade to go for?

Curtain rail and batten fell off

Red brick wall + plaster + skim. No idea if concrete or steel lintel (but some of the door lintels in the house are concrete). It’s been papered over but there are four holes. One at each edge of the window, and the other two evenly spaced apart. Adhesive on the back would stick to wallpaper...

I read that recently. Probably on here too.

Curtain rail and batten fell off

Whilst we’re redecorating the bedroom, swmbo hung some clothes on the curtain rail (against my advice!). After a week, the curtain rail and batten have been ripped out. I’m keen to refit but the holes are a big for brown wall plugs. Can I use some sort of adhesive or grip fill type product to...

    Redecorating bedroom

This is the scraper I ended up buying: https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-long-handled-scraper-6/87299 Also bought some replacement blades. Steamer from screwfix was useless. I had a better result from using my garden sprayer. There was a slight improvement if I used DIF in the water...

    Redecorating bedroom

That's what I've been doing except I added Zinsser DIF instead of washing up liquid. I was thinking of premixed rather than attempting to make up some filler. Is toupret idiot-proof? That looks like an excellent option.

    Insulation board for cutting

I've only just managed to lose a stone after a year of trying!

    Redecorating bedroom

Having removed the old fitted wardrobes, I've turned my attention to the walls. There are different combinations of wallpapers and paint layered on: Area 1 - three layers of wallpaper (base is floral, then two types of anaglypta) Area 2 - three layers of flat wallpaper, at least two layers of...

    Insulation board for cutting

There’s no flex in the boards, even the 2400mm ones. I’d probably break my foot doing that. I’ll try cutting part way through the thickness of the panels.

    Insulation board for cutting

I've got some 2400mm long chipboard (I think) panels from my dismantled fitted wardrobe. I need to cut them down into manageable chunks to fit into the car boot. I've thought of different ways to dry but I'm worried about the blade pinching and kickback. The easiest and safest method I read...

    Euro Cylinder Recommendations

I've got avocet cylinders. They work well and I've got a keyed alike versions so same key opens front and back doors. The keys are magnetic and I've read a couple of reports on the internet about how the magnetic effect can be affected by other items in your pocket which renders the key useless...

    Loft boarding after thick insulation

I think insulation works by trapping air. If you squash insulation and compress it, it becomes less effective. I imagine it's the same for polystyrene balls. Look at loft legs or loftzone system or even just additional timber crossing the original joists to raise the floor up. I've got the...

Best wet and dry vacuum for yards?

I used to have a hozelock version of that to use in a groundfloor flat that had no external tap. Worked very well.

Lidl Parkside cordless 20v jigsaw disaster

I bought the loftzone kit and fitted it last year. I still need to get round to finishing touches like a “landing zone”. I had to trim a few of the metal U-channels and used Tin snips to cut to the desired shape or size. Never occurred to me to try a jigsaw.

    What’s this screw?

I thought for a few minutes then decided to tackle it as a locking cam. Turned the cam and used a mallet. Panel came out.

    What’s this screw?

I’m trying to strip down the fitted wardrobe. I’ve found the L-brackets that secure the panels to the wall and floor. There are braces between the vertical panels and they have these large screws as per photo. They remind me of the ones that come with ikea furniture. I’ve managed to round one...

How long for loft insulation to fluff up?

Did you try and "fluff" it up? I used Knauf 100mm base layer + 170mm top up. After I laid a roll out, I'd pick up the top layers and fluff it up a bit (only gently). It was full thickness pretty much immediately.
