    Extending fence posts

I *think* I’m supposed to lift the fence panel up a bit and screw into the end of the fence panel. Even if I can’t, the bracket is supposed to slot onto end of the fence which might be enough to hold it in place. Yes was thinking of painting it either similar to the fence panels (grey) or a...

    Extending fence posts

SWMBO wants a trellis to the back fence, which is only 4ft tall panel fences and concrete posts. The posts finish near the top of the fence panels so there’s nothing to slot into. I’ve seen extenders which are U-channel shaped metal bars that can fixed to either side of a trellis and then...

    Cleaning wood after sanding

What can I use to clean a wood surface down after sanding? I normally use a brush but it’s not always enough. If I run my fingers over the wood, there’s still a fine layer of sawdust.

    Warped shed door

Thanks. Originally I was thinking of a turn button latch - there’s one already at the top, so it would be easy to attach one at the bottom. A bolt like the one you’ve linked to will be easy to install.

    Hopefully added correctly:

    Warped shed door

https://www.tigersheds.com/product/tiger-value-overlap-apex-shed/ As best as I can work out, this is the shed we have (it was here when we bought the house and they had tiger wood preserver in the shed).

    Warped shed door

This is my own fault. Too lazy to clear up the shed and leaving stuff close to the door meant that there was pressure on the lower part of the shed door. Now I’ve cleared the shed up a little, the bottom corner of the door (opening side not hinged side) protrudes about an inch or so. If I apply...

    Work light

I need something that can function as both a uni-directional torch and also switch to a lantern function (ie 360 degree), powered with batteries (or a makita 18v battery), and portable to hold in one hand. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Painting over shed

Previous owners used this stuff (solvent based) on the shed: https://www.tigersheds.com/product/tiger-sheds-preserver/ in red cedar colour. SWMBO wants it painted a different colour. We are looking at Cuprinol garden shades colours (country cream, silver birch, or urban slate). Can I just...

    Removal of integrated dishwasher frontage

Do you not have the make/model? You may be able to find installation instructions. Otherwise I agree with above - remove screws and they will be wood screws. With my dishwasher, the cabinet door had to be slotted into place and then pushed down, with double sided sticky pads to keep it in...

Attaching Pull Up Bar to Outside brick wall - Advice please

I was looking at buying something like this during the second lockdown. Have a read of the reviews for similar pull up bars - they all suggest using M8 or M10 anchor bolts as the supplier fixings don’t work well.

    Loft insulation and shower cable

Sadly not. There’s not enough slack. It will probably go over the base 100mm insulation but not the 170mm top up. My plan is to cut the insulation to leave an empty gap around the cable. I need to know how much space to give it and ideally “cover” or protect it the way one might with covers...

    Loft insulation and shower cable

I know covering an electric shower cable in loft insulation can cause it to overheat. What can I use to protect the cable? It’s fairly tight against the joists so I wouldn’t be able lift it above the insulation. I’ve already boarded two thirds of the loft. The area over the landing and bathroom...

    Shed barge boards

The finial and barge boards have fallen off the shed. Which timber do I need for barge boards? The old ones had a curve which I’ll use either a jigsaw or trim router to replicate.

    Buying a single fence panel

So to update: Wickes were able to deliver a fence panel and gravel board for £5. I picked up an H-slot wooden fence post Trimmed off two arms of the post to make an end-post (ie U shaped instead of H shaped) Fixed the wooden post to the concrete post by means of concrete screws The concrete...

    Chopping up a tree stump

TBH it was just too wet. Even when I chopped it up, the wood was sodden all the way through.

    Buying a single fence panel

Nope. But then again they didn’t ask for permission when they removed my timber fence post (and didn’t replace it) when they had their fence installed. New neighbours are diagonal ie one house behind and one house to the side. The houses behind us are staggered to one side by about 1m. Those...

    Buying a single fence panel

Didn’t know whether to post a new thread or continue here. Wickes did a delivery for £7. I need to affix a 100x100mm wooden post to a neighbour’s (newly installed) concrete fence post. I can then attach brackets for the gravel board and fence panel to the timber post and slot in the fence. I...

    Chopping up a tree stump

Had another go today. Got a fire lighter in, lit up and got it going but still fizzled out even though I tried to keep the fire going with some tiny strips of wood and paper. I went and bought an axe.

    Chopping up a tree stump

Duly bought some drill bits for this. Drilled 1” holes. Whatever I try to use as starter for the fire snuffs out  I’ll try again with larger holes.
