Can someone recommend a reasonably priced toilet that works

Duravit. These Pans knock the socks off virtually all other brands available, incredibly well made and all come with Geberit flush valves as standard. I have two of them in my home and have fitted a lot of them over the years and they always flush very well. A middle of the road Duravit is...

    A job gone bad

Every now and again you will get a customer that tries to ferk you over, that's a fact of life. I have no idea of the quality of your work here so can't really comment but one thing is for sure, for £100 I would walk away, the stress involved in this sort of thing just isn't worth it.

    Newbie floor tiling question

If you have your heart set on leaving the existing floor down then I would screw down every single floor board then glue and screw 12mm Auapanel on top. Fill all joint with flexible adhesive and fibreglass tape. It might be worthwhile taking a few board up to check current joist size, length...

    porcelain questions

Topps can get hold of the single part version of the adhesive you are using, it's made by Palace and called 'Easi flex' they just rebrand it with the Topss logo, £20 for 20kg white Or they stock Bal single part flexible white which is about £23. Yes, apparently you are supposed to seal...

    Homelux matting fell of wall!

Good, never trust these counter staff, they are often clueless about anything remotely technical.

Never tiled before, does this plan sound ok?

Starting on the skirting is fine provided it is totally level which in my experiance, they rarely are. The border should never go below the Basin top, that's much too low. Never used a tile saw but some trav can be pretty hard, so the usual way to cut the waste pipe out in the two tiles...

    Homelux matting fell of wall!

Homelux were a little bit vague when I contacted them when I first used their product so i went with what Schluter (similar product) recommended, which was a cement based rapid setting adhesive. Dispersion based adhesives, (like your ready mixed) rely on the adhesive drying for it to achieve...

    Homelux matting fell of wall!

You should be fitting the matting on with a rapid setting cement based adhesive. Once set the matting can be peeled off with a certain amount of force if you really wanted to get it off, but it is still incredibly strong, if you think about it, the paprer face of P/board can be peeled off...

Does The Piece Of Bread In The Pipe Trick Work?

Whilst bread does work, I'm still waiting for someone to invent something that works better, a gel plug for example, that will give you 5 minutes before it disolves. Water in pipes really does slow you down, in particular when soldering onto pipes after bunging an open vented system and the...

    Gap between cistern and wall

The wall and floor may be out of square, if you're happy with the gap and it doesn't leak then leave it, although it is good practise to have a couple of tap washers between the cistern and the wall anyway..............

    Bathroom tiling

Don't be so sensitive, with regard to my advise, I'm gonna say exactly what I want on this forum , I'm not gonna 4ussy foot round you because you take offense if someone so much as passes wind when you're in the same room. You need to accept that tiling straight onto 18mm ply is not great...

    Boiler overrun?

Yes, boiler and pump stopped at the same time when boiler stat reached temp. Fully pumped open vented system with 8mm copper to Rads. I advised the customer to get a heating engineer out as the boiler just didn't stay on for long enough.

    Plumbing

I totally agree. My ex Lad was superb, he didn't have a day off in 3 years, had his phone on silent all day, only checked it during the drive home. I went through a rough patch in September this year, I think I took in £600 compared to £15k in Sep '08 so my lad had to get something else...

    Bathroom tiling

Elastomeric adhesive required when no overboarding is done, that's tiling directly onto Chipboard flooring, 18mm ply or even 25mm ply. You can't argue with the facts, give Bal a call they will back me up. I feel that Ditra is the best choice for preparing the 18 or 25mm ply or even tile...

    Bathroom tiling

Phone Bal and ask them, they will say point blank that it is wrong, I strongly advice against tiling directly onto 18mm ply onto bare joists, if the joists move, the tiles will fail. The company I used to work for many years ago used to tile onto 9mm ply overboard, never a failure, would we...
