    C/H system shut down issue

Hopefully there is someone here who is familiar with this boiler? If you have the installation manual, there may be some pointers there. There could be another stat controlling pump overrun by measuring temperature, which is worn out.

    C/H system shut down issue

That is probably the pump overrun, nothing to do with overheat. This is allow any residual heat in the heat exchanger to be dissipated through the radiators. Its not really a problem if its a bit longer than needed, as it can also help to distribute the heat evenly throughout the system...

    Moved into new flat

I think you meant to say that you turned ON the rising main and their were no leaks. Its quite possible there are additional isolation valves fitted, which have been turned off, especially on the toilets. I would not attempt to turn on the immersion heater unless you are 100% sure that...

Sorry, I did not realise that ! I gather you do not agree with the government asking people to recruit apprentices  Keith

    Moved into new flat

If its not broken, then why try and fix it, unless you think there is an issue with safety?. That`s more to do with the boiler than anything else. If its a gas boiler, then you would be better to get a Gas Safe person to look at it, if you have any doubts. First thing is to locate your...

An intermittent fault. what did the storm heating man do?

I had a pump on my old system like that! It had a small plastic dial which moved a metal arm underneath between a number of switch positions. Heat eventually caused intermittent connections and the dial disintegrated. I took the small plastic cover off and replaced the dial with a small...

    Condensate pump

Its not hot steam, just (about 50C) mist, plus combustion products, if everything is working properly. If its mild outside, you may not see anything at all. Keith

    Very hot bathroom wall

I am pleased that you have it sorted. Reading the posts on this forum, it seems that quite a few people with modern condensing boilers have the flow temperature set very high. If you have a monitor on the return temperature, and can keep it below 55C, then you stand a good chance of making...

Need model number for valliant boiler

Look at http://www.vaillant.co.uk/homeowners/service/literature-downloads/ There is an e-mail link for their literature department, they should be able to e-mail you a user manual. Keith

Need model number for valliant boiler

if you can find a label somewhere and do a Google search on the model number, look for any Vaillant pages, you should be able to find a PDF document. There should be a user manual, and an installation manual. If you can specify exactly which model it is, then someone should be able to help.

Replacing Mechanical Thermostat with Programmable Thermostat

Digital programmable thermostats usually have a simple changeover switch, so people can use them for heating or cooling. Be aware that some also need a mains neutral feed, unless they are battery powered like the Horstmann one. You may not have this on your old unit, unless it has an...

    Very hot bathroom wall

If its that hot on the wall, heating flow temperature is way too high. Turn the boiler temperature down. If its a new boiler, then it will be a condensing type. The lower the temperature, the happier it will be. Start off at about 65C and see if you can still heat the house to a comfortable...

    Cistern black mould

I have always used bleach and an old toothbrush (watch your eyes!) Make sure that any metal parts are flushed clean. Any residual bleach will soon get washed out, prepare for quite a bit of foam appearing in the bowl, the first time you flush it. You can get disinfectant blocks which...

    Vaillant ecotec plus 837 combi

There are too many variable, including the British weather ! Its unlikely the gas meter is faulty. Reduce the flow temperature, you can look at the return temperature d41. If you can keep it below 55C, then there will be something extra to gain, however the boiler is quite efficient anyway...

    Vaillant ecotec plus 837 combi

Ideally you should set the flow temperature as low as possible, while still maintaining the room temperature. If you have a reasonably well insulated house, and your radiators are large enough, a lower temperature will be sufficient. An external weather compensator, where fitted, adjusts...

    Vaillant ecotec plus 837 combi

The VRT 392 may not actually act as an interlock, and shut the boiler totally down. Reading the online manual, it is not very clear how it works. To maintain a constant temperature, it probably modulates the power output. If there is still too much output, then it will cycle, which it what you...

    Tap washer replacement problems

    1) Probably a packaging error. 2) I don`t know, but I expect there are some old timers here that can help. 3) Its quite likely that the tap seating has a groove in it. Water can be very abrasive, especially if the leak has been going on a while. You can often see, or feel the groove in the...
