    How to rate dimmers

Hi all. Just needing to know how to rate dimmers. Say you have 300W of GU10's and you want to be able to dim them using a dimmer, i know that you have to have specific rated dimmers and i've read somewhere that there is a calculation for working it out. I also have 500W of GU10's that i need...

    Lighting cable problem

It's a new extension, so it needs plasterboarding all out, neatness to me means no wires, no pipes nothing just neatness. If it is not allowed to be buried then, can i use choc blocks and just have them out of the wall, this wouldn't be seen at all and you would be able to have full access to...

    Lighting cable problem

No that's what i though breezer, you would ned access to it. So in this instance is it possible to extend the cable by the use of a choc block so that i can sort out the problem? Are choc blocks allowed to be buried or not, do they have to be taped with elctrical insulation tape

    Lighting cable problem

thanks for that comment. Is it possible for you to clarify why a junction box opposed to choc blocks. I take it they can carry the current. The cabinets are not actually in and the junction box would need to be buried.

    Lighting cable problem

I decided to put the wires for the lighting in the kitchen. I have 2 questions. 1) are there under cabinet lights on the market that can be wired in, as this is how i have planned it. Most of the ones that i have seen have these link cables. So i need a under cabinet light that can receive...

    Electrical images

Yes exactly... I see what you are saying. I still think that we should have our own secure image uploading area though. I've noticed a few people drawing thier own images, i've even done a couple, within a short space of time we would have quite a few images and they would be here to stay...

    Electrical images

It didn't look to me that any of the images were copied, nor did i see a disclaimer to this effect. i take your point though we do have to be careful. Some of the diagrams that i have probably haven't been seen before, some probably have.

    Electrical images

My first point to raise is the need for a local secure server to place our images on. I.E something for members. We have now seen and indeed have learned the lesson of relying on others. Some of us still use image hosting servers and services of this kind. Others use their own servers and...

Can shops still stock the old cable

Seen the unharmonised cable in a well known store today. Infact there was no harmonised cable in the store at all. I wouldn't buy from there any too expensive. i asked a bloke on the department and he said that they got the old cable at the right price he had been told and that's why they were...

    Low voltage downlighters

Yeah though as much. I've just put 5 x 50 watts in a large bedroom that we have. I'll just have to calculate the wattage and have mains ones instead. The Gu10's are really nice. Just out of interest how do you position downlighters in a room. In the bedroom we have set a downlighter in each...

    Low voltage downlighters

Just a question. I went and had a look at some low voltage downlighters today at a well known store. One problem the wire lengths on the cables are not long enough in between each connector. There is only a distance of probably 1 meter between lights. If you wanted 1 in each corner of the...

What's it like been an Electrician?

i don't think you should be put off. You obviously have the intelligence to be able to do it. You obviously have the ability to learn. Don't let electricians kid you... they earn good money and have excellent lighting in their own homes ha ha. I think that if you can spare a few more years of...
