Polystyrene insulation in bottom half of roof only - why?

Noticed roofers inserting polystyrene sheets in rafter bays only at the bottom half of the roof. Halfway up they ran what looked like Eave plastic vent strip across the rafters. Any ideas why they were doing this? I also noticed them inserting green plastic snakes of what seemed to be some...

replacing a ceiling decorative light with a pendant

I forgot to mention that the new pendant was a chandelier, hence the weight. The instructions show a very dim pic of a fitted chandelier and the text seems to have been written in invisible ink, it's mostly concerned with general electrical principles.

replacing a ceiling decorative light with a pendant

When the in-situ ceiling light was dropped it was seen that the "hanging/fixing bar" was only screwed into the plaster, no joist available. The new pendant is heavy, theres no access from above and no hacking about can be done from below. Are expanding hanging bars available - i've seen...

    Leaking roof advice

Isn't the valley set too deep for the surface roof plane? There seems to be far too much compo(sand and cement) such that it will inevitably move and crack along the valley and at the verge. Is the roof cross battened?

    how to fit UPVC fascia

Woody, thanks for the reply. As a matter of interest, how would you go about working up and replacing or capping the barge boards? How far into the roof would you go? AME, are you talking about the eaves and fascia, not the verge ie. the gable and barge boards?
