    Water-based (especially over oil-based) is bads news ..Sand the begger off , if it wont sand easily try a heat gun but dont linger with it or you'll strip the underlying coats too ! :wink:

    You could try some Rustins woodstain applied by cloth or brush followed by a clear or tinted matt or satin polyuerathane varnish, alternatively something likeDulux protective woodstain.. In any case stick to oil-based rather than any quick-drying water-based c**p ! :wink:

    Eggshell does not require undercoat, treat the knots then prime followed by 2 coats of eggshell.

    Yeah , especially if theyve made me plenty of tea or I want more work out of them :) Youre right about the weather, not even worth booking them in these days, only do 1 or 2 exteriors a year now (if that) & thats only if they twist my arm! ... :roll:

    In my experience , yes. I reckon the paint manufacturers are just covering themselves (Pun alert! ) by suggesting two coats, at least that should guarantee coverage thereby full satisfaction=no complaints/returns !

    Its not really the best as far as durability ( or finish ) goes but if youre preparation was meticulous then it should be ok .Theres nothing really that you can overcoat to make any difference, Id wait & see how theyve stood up to wear & tear in 6 months, if not to well then rub down and apply...

    Ive never had to apply 2 coats in all my years in buisness - a good quality trade gloss (I prefer Crown or Brolac followed closely by Dulux) will cover undercoat in one ! :wink:

    Skim those areas with Easy-fill or Tetrion all purpose filler if you cant acheive a smooth finish that way you might want to line the walls for a guaranteed smooth finish :wink:
