    patchy emulsion

TRADE emulsion ( Dulux, Crown etc.,) from a TRADE shop, its thicker/undiluted unlike DIY (Homebase/B&Q etc) stuff

    patchy emulsion

The paint will usually look slightly lighter on smooth areas compared to the 'rougher' patches in the same way two pieces of white paper , one smooth the other 'toothed' , will seem a different tones

    Coving and silicone problems

Easier to cut the external first  As for the silicone, a coat of oil-based undercoat will seal it before emulsion

    patchy emulsion

You should never need to water it down(except the first coat)..Cant understand how its drying between each roller fill unless youre nipping out for a tea between dips :) I wish all emulsions dried that quick as Id earn a lot more money 8)

    which roller and brush set

Spend at least £4 on a medium to deep pile roller sleeve from a trade outlet .As for brushes - A Hamiltons perfection 2"(woodwork) or Contractor 3"(for emulsion ) You might find a decent Harris or Acorn for a bit less

best option here for getting wall ready to paint (see pic)

Are these plasterboard walls or solid plaster? In either case Id suggest lining or a possible light skim with Easi-fill if the latter

    Polyfilla vs caulking

Omw yes, forget to mention it, Red Devil onetime filler is the absolute dogs b*****s, Ive been using it for years, pricey but great stuff - slightly flexible too .. Not suited to larger areas needing skimming though (unless youre rich )

    Polyfilla vs caulking

    Paint flaking/coming away from wall

Hi Phil, I presume youre painting the walls with matt emulsion? If so you wont need primer, thats only used on bare wood/metal prior to top-coating though it wont do any harm on the walls , just a bit of overkill
