    Old light fittings

Hi, We have aquired some very old light fittings. I am going to re-wire them but the main problem is how do I attach them to the wall! They all come with this funny small hole poking out the back but they look like they need some sort of hook on the wall to attach to. They are all...

    Taps don't work too well!

Hi, We have just moved into a house and they have the following taps in the bathroom: Both the hot and cold don't work very well. When you turn them on they either dribble or don't work at all. Is this something that can be fixed or do I need new taps? Many thanks, Chris

No screws on the side. I can see the holes but no screws. Do I need to take the kick board off?

    Indesit DI 62 smoking

Hi, We have just moved into a house with the above mentioned dish washer. When I put it on it made some noises for about 10 minutes and then I heard it drop the tablet into the machine. I was worried there wasn't any water in it so I opened the door to check. It was bone dry and the heating...

    Damp with pic....

Hi all! I have just been to look at a house to buy which was built in the 1600's. The guy who owns it says that damp is, and always will be, a problem. There are some walls which have no plaster on them and they are quite clearly damp to the touch. He said this is normal and that if we...

    Drainage in garden

Hi, We have been looking to buy a house which has a very small paved garden. Clearly the sewer runs under the middle of the garden beause their is a drain and an inspection chamber in the middle of the garden! Ideally I would want to grass the whole thing. My questions is would I have to...

    Should I get planning permission?

Hi, Our house is a victorian terrace which has a loft conversion, single storey extension and a granny annex. All of which were built maybe 20 years ago (before we had the house) and to our knowledge do not have planning permission or building regs approval! This has bever bothered us and...

    Roof window curtain

Hi all, We have a very old roof (velux style) window. It is too old to find the manufacturer but I need to install some curtains on it. We have tried the ones from Argos and they just don't work. Does anyone have any idea as to how I can put curtains on it? By the way it is metal...

    PIR security Light

I got 2 from Scrwfix a couple of years ago (I think they were about £10 each). They both lasted 2 years and worked fine until the bulbs went. The screw to replace the bulbs was carroded beyond repair on both and so they had to go in the bin.

    Thermostat

It is in the living room at the bottom of the stairs (stairs come off the living room). The rad in the same room has no TRV. There could be a draught coming in from the front door which opens straight into the living room. Thanks for your reply. At least I know it isn't wired...
