How close can a rad be to a boiler?

Thats great, thanks. One last question. When I cut the 22mm flow and returns to put my compression T-piece in how much do I have to cut away? Or is it a case of trial and error?

How close can a rad be to a boiler?

We've had a new Valliant combi installed and are very happy with it. We messed up though because we have a small downstairs loo right next to the boiler and didn't get a rad fitted. It's now really cold in there! The easiest was to T-off the flow and return (22mm) will by about 30cm away...

    OK in a downstairs loo?

Thanks for the info chaps. I don't suppose any of you have any experience with them do you? Are they any good? It's a very small loo so not much space to heat.

    OK in a downstairs loo?

Hi all, I just want to double check! I want to put one of these http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/JVSH300.html in my downstairs loo. Will this be OK? It says you can't use it in a bathroom but I'm assuming that a room with just a toilet and sink in will be ok. Many thanks...

    DIY cavity insualtion

Our utility room is only 1 brick thick and because of this it is colder than the rest of the house. Internally is 12.5mm plasterboard attached to noggins which are screwed to the brickwork. I don't want to take the plasterboard down to insert insulation and so wondered if there was a 'DIY'...

    Easy way to fit TRVs

Hi, We live in a victorian terrace which has a 'heating imbalance'! The kitchen and diner is open plan and has two very large rads in. It also contains the thermostat. As a result the thermostat turns the heating off before the front room and upstairs have got to a comfortable temp...

Trying to make a cabin bed

Sorry, just one last question. Should I go for PSE timber or Sawn timber (the options on the wickes website are Kiln dried and sawn treated). Cheers Chris

Trying to make a cabin bed

Yes, it will be a high sleeper with a desk and storage for clothes underneath. Because of the gap it is going into the bed will not be 'free standing'. This means I'll be able to attach the four corner uprights to the wall which should make it much more stable. Thanks again for your info...

Trying to make a cabin bed

Thats excelent Mattylad. Thanks. How do you suggest I attach the 1.25x1.5(ish) bead along the inside edges? Should I just screw and glue? What strikes me is that you'e got all this strong wood but all the weight is on these small bits of bead! Bassically the bed will be a high sleeper...

Trying to make a cabin bed

Many thanks for the links. So you like my drawing! I am thinking of becoming a graphic designer!! I still can't see on any of those links what type of wood to use for the uprights and the long 6ft span. Can I use CLS timber or will it bow?

Trying to make a cabin bed

I'm going to try and make a cabin bed for my son. The trouble is that I don't know what type of wood to use. All the decorative bits will be MDF but I need something strong for the frame. I've included a small drawing which shows that the bed fits in a gap and so I will be able to batten...

    Golden oldie

We have just been given an Electrolux 600SLC carpet cleaner. It looks great (Something out of the 70s!). The trouble is we have no manual. Does anyone have a copy of the manual or do they know what type of shampoo I should put in it? Any help would be much appreciated. Chris

    Ceiling batons

The cable isn't too thick but I can't disconnect it at either end so I can't feed it through the existing void. The wood won't cost too much hopefully and I don't mind loosing 2" on the ceiling hight.

    Ceiling batons

Thats great, thanks Deluks. What is PAR? B+Q were selling some cheap stuff the other day which was PSE (Plane squared edge, I think!). I'm not fussed about noise so I take it I wouldn't save any money on the heating bills by putting insluation in? Cheers Chris

    Ceiling batons

I'm going to re-board the ceiling in my kitchen but need to baton first because I need some space to re-route a cable - Armoured SWA. (a gap between the old ceiling and the new one). Can anyone suggest what type of wood I should use? Also would it be a good idea to insulate behind the...

How best to apply silicone sealant

I'm no expert but I have found that dipping your finger in washing up liquid and then running it along the bead gives a good finish. So does wrapping a baby wipe round your finger!
