    Temporary study in the Loft

If you look in the loft, it seems that there was once a third floor in the original house and has later been removed. There is also a window in the loft (which matches the old wooden windows of the house), but it has now been slated over with the roof. You can see new timber is used to block...

    Temporary study in the Loft

The length of the house from back to front is around 28 feet. A solid wall runs parallel to the back and front wall in the middle of the house. So joists span is just less than 14 feet from front wall to the supporting wall in the middle of the property. (The table and chair will be in this...

    Temporary study in the Loft

I need to do some solid study for some exams. I am in full time employment and have a family, so I don’t think it will be possible to do it in the living space of the house. I was wondering if it would be feasible to create some working space in the loft. Our loft has already got studs for...

    Liar .............

Yes, that's the point. To "PROTECT US" and "PREVENT CRIME". Ian Tomlinson was one of "US" and assault on someone innocent is not preventing crime. Ian Tomlinson was walking away from the thug in uniform. The job of the police was to protect him (as you say “PROTECT US”) not to assault him.

    British Doctors.

A GP working full time would be earning close to or over £100K. But what is your point? No one is stopping the checkout chick from becoming a doctor. Why is it that people are not willing to work hard, but are jealous of others who have?

    PVC Door - Handle Stiff

I have had a new PVC door installed in my extension. To engage the 5 point locking system, you have to turn the handle upwards. This upward movement take a bit of force to go up. IS this normal or the door is not aligned properly?

Removing dried grout from marble mosaics

I would just use a scraper or plastic scraper / grout remover. I don't think there is any other way. You can try a steamer to soften the grout up a bit first. But it is a nasty job and I am not aware of a quick fix. Only way to save this hassle is to wipe the tiles clean straight after you...

    Java updates

Yes they should be updated. The "update" could actually be a patch to address security vulnerability in the pervious Java version, which can be exploited and you could get a virus / malware on your PC.

    Calculate type1 and 20mm shingle

Can you draw and attach a rough diagram of the area in question. You need to divide the whole area into smaller regular shapes (i.e. 3 rectangles or squares) you can then find the area of each one and add it together to get the area for the whole garden.

    Which Trade?

Taking paid work on the back of a training course would be pushing it a bit in my honest opinion. You shouldn't need training to tile at diy standard. But if you going to charge people for your work, they will expect a perfect finish which needs practise.
