    The switch covers sold by Wilkinson are supplied with self adhesive pads which will cut any possibility of the plate becoming live and the reason you will struggle to find anyone to supply a metal socket cover is for the 'earthing' issue alluded to by young Bernard....

    Hi Wilkinson stores do covers for 'switches' in brass and chrome but I don't think they, or in fact anyone else, will do a cover plate for sockets...... Just bite the bullet and go get yourself some fancy new switches and sockets....you'll feel great about yourself afterwards! :lol:

    That varilight dimmer was actually designed to deal with minimum loading requirements for a single varilight dimmable CFL but was found to work with the megaman lamps.. The richmond dimmer is a top dimmer but either way you will still be waiting for those lamps to warm up before any dimming...

    When you say 'correct' dimmer one assumes you must have a Richmond dimmer which is the only dimmer that can make some sort of attempt to 'dim' them....

    [/url] If you happen to reach 100% and it starts to dim down again...simply take your finger off the touch plate and touch again and it will cycle back to full brightness....by the way...the whole dimming cycle from 'bottom' to 'top' back to 'bottom' is only a matter of seconds..

    GU10 lamps are very 'spiky' when they blow and can easily take out fuses/dimmers etc ...... you were lucky you got 2 years out of them :D 600W in a kitchen!! ... I'd love to see your leccy bill!

    You may have a compatibility issue between a hamilton knob and a varilight spindle....you might have to ask very nicely for a varilight brass knob

    I would imagine that masking tape left on for 16 hours would probably remove the protective laquer on most decorative metal switch plates...... :roll:
