'Drips' in lead box valley gutter-why?

Hi All the details I've read for a lead valley box gutter on the internet state that there needs to be a 'drip' after each 1500mm for code 4 lead. I'm trying to understand what the 'drip' is for. Is it to allow for thermal expansion or does it help to allow the water to fall? Many thanks.

    All lead flat roof?

Hi Freddy I did come across that old thread when I did a search. What did you end up doing? The lead association does recommend the 50mm ventilation as did another lead specialist I contacted. So on balance given how much the lead costs and how little work the ventilation takes it would...

    All lead flat roof?

Thanks Oldun I think I'll probably go with the lead, it is expensive but I'm just not sure I can bare having a 'rubber/plastic' roof in my own home. It's going to cost circa £200/sqm2, zinc would have been cheaper at £150/m2. It's a lot of money, I'm going to think about it over the...

    All lead flat roof?

Yes that is a possibility. However it's at the back of the house, I have cctv cameras and perimeter sensor alarms

    All lead flat roof?

If I could raise the pitch we wouldn't be having this discussion. A well executed, well detailed lead flat roof looks a million times better than a single low pitch roof with horrible concrete interlocking tiles.

    All lead flat roof?

Thank you, he is actually not a million miles from where I live. Does he do small residential projects or only big stuff? Funnily enough the guy who was recommended to me (by somebody else) is also from Hornchurch, but his name was Rob. Could it be the same outfit?

    All lead flat roof?

Thanks Tony. I also notice a vapour control layer, is that usual for a warm deck?

    All lead flat roof?

Thanks, that confirms what my builder said, but he himself can't do the lead roof. Could anybody kindly explain what purpose the breathable membrane serves in the detail below? http://www.leadsheet.co.uk/types-of-roof-and-ventilation Many thanks

    All lead flat roof?

Also, on the detail below from the lead association with regards to a warm deck; I understand all of it but what purpose does the breather membrane just above the insulation serve? Many thanks

    All lead flat roof?

Hi there I had an single storey extension at the back of my house that had a single pitched roof with horrible concrete interlocking tiles due to the low pitch. I've now built over half of this extension with a first floor extension. Anyway, the remaining single storey element needs...

    Roof Design

As a slightly fussy homeowner I think it looks fine. I'd be happier having that than a flat roof. The only exception would be if the flat roof was a statement piece ie made from zinc/copper with a lantern roof etc

Does this suspended floor construction look ok?

This is a suspended floor for my side extension. I noticed that neither insulation was laid into the concrete nor a damp proof membrane. When I questioned my builder he said that 1) Insulation was not needed in the concrete itself because rock wool would be inserted between the joists...

Would this be a non material amendment?

Thanks guys. DOH, when you say there would be an increase in volume are you referring to the roof space? I assumed when I read guidance on the matter and they mentioned increases in volume they meant the habitable portion. Thanks to all.

Would this be a non material amendment?

Hello I have PP for a part single storey and part double storey side extension which is now being built. The PP was for the single storey part to have a double pitched roof that looks like this ^, ie an upside down v. The front end was meant to have a hip. I've decided that it would...
