Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

Yes, that is the wire end i thought looked disconnected! I came to wondering - if I have 4 wire actuators everywhere, could I set up the upstairs system to use the actuator end switches, to trigger the boiler and pump, leaving me some extra wires to bring power up from the main power feed...

Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

I need to go back and take a photo from another angle - as when i looked at my photo again - it look like one of the yellow wires is not connected - is it possible they connected the wrong wires to the wrong locations and left some disconnected by accident?

Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

umm, some of the actuators are honeywell ones, but rebranded by the company who made the system, they were honeywell M100-BGE-IH, 4 wire. I have replaced some of them when the plastic bodies have failed, with an equivalent. The additional wires arent used on any of them as far as i can see...

Underfloor Heating - A couple of issues

For anyone who ends up here, this is the thread in the electrical forum, albeit a year on from the last post here. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/underfloor-heating-controls-a-conundrum.512261/

Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

Simon, Thanks for taking the time to try and assist. I follow you logic on the pump wire, and I think this is a good line of enquiry, I will certainly try and do this. With regard to the first and second wires from the right, they are the wires going to the actuators - so where two wires are...

Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

I would agree, not the best piece of wiring by whoever did it... I have actually tried to find someone to come and diagnose the system, but I'm finding it challenging - no one is interested, they'd rather install nice new stuff :( If I can at least have a better diagnosis I might be able to...

Underfloor heating controls - a conundrum

Almost a year ago I was trying to resolve a few issues with our underfloor - see orignal thread in plumbing here: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/underfloor-heating-a-couple-of-issues.493454/ The meachancal side is fairly under control (!) now nut the control side - electrically, is still...

Vaillant EcoTec Plus 831 - Heating flow temp remains at 50 degs

The status recognised sounds like something is still there and expecting a signal, but its not seeing it?

    Underfloor heating controls

I was under impression that in this case you would want the ability to isolate the radiator circuit and the underfloor circuit each with a valve, so that they can operate independently, or together, otherwise you will end up flowing water out to both, even if one isn't calling for heat? I.e. if...

Vaillant EcoTec Plus 831 - Heating flow temp remains at 50 degs

I don't know the answer, but I can see that a link wire/jumper is gone from a 24v terminal in your second picture - anyone know if that's ok for the OP? I'm guessing that's to do with the previous wireless stat if it was connected to the board elsewhere - and the link enabled it?

Underfloor Heating - A couple of issues

Ok will do. I did some more fiddling again in 10 spare minutes, and if I knock off all stats upstairs and downstairs, when both pumps were running, the pair both knocked off. But then only bringing a downstairs one back turns both pumps back on. It's not possible as far as I can tell to bring...

Underfloor Heating - A couple of issues

Any thoughts ref that wiring? I know that there must be some additions to that since I have two manifolds and pumps but with what seems to be a lack of zone valves, is there any way with this wiring that could explain the weird behaviour with the stats and pump triggering?

    Central heating pump help needed

you missed my intent, I agree that heat out of the radiator will be the same, we cant beat physics :) but the return temperature to the boiler will be too high, which was the OP's concern. so the delta T is too low, and too much energy is being returned with the water to the boiler, and as such...

    Positioning a thermostat

Thirded, lockshield locked down to match the heat up of the hall to the rest of the house - if there is no rad on the landing, this shouldn't be too hard to achieve as the rad must be a fair output in the hall to cause the issue you are having?

    Underfloor heating not working ?

This could be a sticking pin under the actuator head, so the actuator might be heating up, and the plastic bit moving, but the pin in valve not lifting, so no water flowing, if you take actuator head off of the valve, see if the pin can be moved in and out of the valve? Similar to a trv on a...

    Central heating pump help needed

That means likely flow is too fast.... Water isn't getting time to release its energy fully to your room. Read further up this thread. This will result in inefficient boiler operation I think?
