    GU10 lights for the bathroom

Good point! The floor to ceiling height is 2.36m but bath to ceiling is obviously shorter. Eitherway, looking at the lights again they're zone 1 compatable. http://www.lightsaver.co.uk/shop/?page=main_shop.php&whichmenu=bathlig&scrollcat=SL At £10 each with no transformer required, they...

    Isn't the ceiling zone 2?

    GU10 lights for the bathroom

It seems by far the most common downlighting option for the bathroom is to use LV dichroic lamps. However, I have noticed one or two manufacturers which produce IP65 mains voltage GU10 downlighters. Given that these don't require transformers and are significantly cheaper why would anyone...

    Low pressure from combi boiler

    1. Don't know the boiler type 2. Don't own a flow meter 3. Didn't realise your post was a question. It's a statement. Apologies, but no need to be hostile.

    Low pressure from combi boiler

Like I said, its a trickle (quite literally takes 20 minutes to fill a bath!) but oddly the bathroom sink tap is fine. I guess I've just answered my own question there .... its the tap thats knackered! DP - I posted the topic out of personal interest rather than for the benefit of...

    Low pressure from combi boiler

A mate of mine appears to have a problem with his combi boiler. I'm not sure of the model but the boiler is a Vailant, a big thing, nearly 5ft high! Given that the boiler cost him 3 grand (with fitting) I'm assuming it has a high power rating but the hot water pressure upstairs is little more...

Removing old grout between bathroom floor tiles

How about simply using a Dremel to just drill out the old grout and replace. Never done it myself but sounds easy enough.

    Keying skim coat for tiling

Thanks for that gcol. I'm now ready to put the skim coat on but have left the undercoat to almost dry. Is it ok just to put the finishing plaster straight on and will it bond ok. I could put a coat of pva on but am concerned that I would lock in the remaining moisture in the undercoat.

    Subsidence!

    Subsidence!

I live near Manchester so theres certainly no drought round here :) Its mainly in the kitchen extension area where there is a large crack all around the ceiling line (approx 5mm). If the extensions sinking then I'm not overly concerned as I can use it as an excuse to tear it down and build...

    Subsidence!

Don't know if this is appropriate for a DIY forum but I would appreciate any advice from anyone who knows anything about subsidence. A number of cracks and gaps have recently started appearing all over the house. They are quite superficial and can all be simply sorted by filling...

    Keying skim coat for tiling

I'm about to put a coat of multifinish in the bathroom prior to tiling. I'm presuming I should avoid excessively polishing so that the tile grout adheres better. Should I do anything to the finished surface other than priming? Also, at what point can I apply the multifinish? I've just...

    Tiling on recently plastered walls

How long should I leave plaster to dry properly before tiling? The wall has been fully plastered i.e. from bare brick, and is about 2-3cm thick. Thanks.

    Plastering Help Please

I have some general plastering questions which I hope someone can help me with ... I want to put a skim coat of plaster in the bathroom. The surface is part bonding coat, part original finish plaster and some wall board. Should I coat the whole lot with pva first? If so, what dilution...

    Strengthening Trusses

After having the roof tiles replaced on my house the builder commented that the roof wasn't sturdy and needed diagonal braces to strengthen it. Sounded like an easy enough DIY job to me. Can anyone give me any tips how I should fit these? Or ... do you think he was just trying to get some...

Floor Tiling and under floor pipes

I like the idea of having ceramic floor tiles in the bathroom but don't know if its a good idea given that the pipework is under the floorboards. Can anyone tell me if this is a bad idea or if there is any alternative solution (e.g. tiled access panel)?
