    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

Ok. Cheers. I won't bother with that then. If I'm replacing the fan, am I right in thinking it is ok to do that myself? Or am I in the realms of 'gas safe only' for that?

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

Update... So, I start to think about calling someone in, and now it has just decided to revert to where it was a couple of days ago - making the 'buzzing' fan noise. Does anyone know if I can do anything useful to alleviate it - like taking off the fan, giving it a squirt of WD40? Or am I...

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

So not a simple pcb swap? I know there are a lot of knowledgable guys on here, but the only heating engineers I've ever had the pleasure of having in my house have either been: - Manufacturer's own (Baxi Heat Team) - know the product well, lots of parts in the van, usually fairly quick and...

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

I know this is an odd reply, but neither - both heating and hot water are fine for now (I'm hoping the boiler will keep up with the Monday morning rush, but I guess we'll see!) My problem is that I've noticed that the boiler isn't behaving the same as it used to, and it is taking longer to...

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

I've just checked the pipe temps with a probe on a multimeter. It isn't bang on, but close enough. I'm getting readings of 52deg on the return, and 78deg on the flow. Both temps taken about 300mm along the pipe just above the boiler. So I guess we can rule that out.

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

The more I thought about this, the more it was bugging me that all the symptoms seem to point to a pump problem or other flow issues, so I've today: - Swapped the pump for an identical 'known good' pump. - Installed an additional bleed vent on the flow pipe in the one spot where I thought...

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

Fair point, but: - It is taking a lot longer to heat up the store than it did a couple of weeks ago. - It is a lot quieter (because there is no fan noise). - I'm assuming there is some kind of internal flow regulator (???) to restrict the flow to produce the 80deg flow temp, rather than the...

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

The pump is fine. It isn't that its 'going nowhere', it just seems that the boiler isnt running at full pelt anymore, and I'm trying to work out why.

    Gloworm 30hxi - cuts out & won't do a powerful burn

Hi all. I've got a Gloworm 30hxi boiler on an open vented system. When going at 'full pelt' it used to make quite a lot of noise - sounding like a fan, and shoot a good powerful plume out of the flue. Last week I noticed an odd noise - I'm not sure whether to describe it as a buzzing or...

    Planning heating/Plumbing from scratch..

I can't comment on your PHE idea, but just thought I'd chip in... I've recently fitted a thermal store married with a condensing gas boiler, piped for a solid fuel stove gravity input (not yet activated), and with a solar thermal input coil for when I get around to fitting a panel (hopefully...

Anyone know of a TMV with a low output temperature?

Hi all. I'm searching for a thermostatic mixing valve with a lower-than-normal output temperature - approx 20 degrees ideally (I might get away with 25 degrees). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've been searching for ages and come up with nothing. I'm using it to pre-heat...

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

I think I've got there.... from a combination of most of your replies. The main reason I'm wanting the 'pump circulating to dump heat' safety system to work is because a) I've got it, so may as well make some use of it; and b) I don't want to rely on just one safety system that kicks in at...

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

I did consider leaving the TRV off the towel rail; but putting aside some of the issues (tiny bathroom, can get too warm), I'm not convinced that rad is big enough to dissipate sufficient heat from a 350lt store. Why won't the 3rd pipe to a rad work?

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

The store has a power free safety system pre-installed that kicks in at 95 deg to circulate mains cold water round the store to quench it. this is the last line of defence, and is not the safety system I refer to in this thread - which by definition needs power to operate, so does not fall into...

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

Dan. I think (that is 'think') you've misunderstood my plans and intentions. There are safety systems for use with uncontrolled heat sources; I should use them. I've got that. Safety matters. I've got that - two kids, wife etc etc. There are two safety systems fitted to the store. One...

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

My problem is that I've never used an auto bypass valve before, so I've no idea if it will work as I would like it to work in this instance. Can anyone tell me if it will do what I want it to do?

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

Hi Dan Sorry, I should have said. I do have the power-free overheat protection system fitted as well. I've been advised that I shouldn't rely on it alone, and should still have the facility for the system to dump heat in a more conventional way. I had considered (briefly) not having a heat...

Bypass circuit... solid fuel stove... thermal store...

Hi all. I am soon to install a Specflue / DPS heatbank thermal store heated by both a solid fuel stove and a gas boiler. I'm not a pro, just a DIYer with ideas bigger than his budget....! One of the safety features pre-installed onto the thermal store is an overheat stat which fires the...

Damaged main earth cable - advice please!

Errm. No, I've no idea! My electrical main is an overhead supply from my neighbour's house. It has two cables - the main supply and an earth. They come into the house just above head height, and go to the main fuse board. The main fuse has a big yellow sticker on it warning of multiple...
