    Safestyle uk

Definitely dodged! Avoid the big company's like the plague, I assume your a bricky from the name? If so you should know the crap work most large company's turn out. Always go local, A door you can go and knock on when/if something goes wrong or needs adjusting.

Switch inward opening uPVC Bi-Fold to open outwards?

Get new doors made and sell the old ones to recoup some losses. Also get a proper window fitter to do the install/survey.

Replacing a glass insert panel in a UPVC front door

Hard to tell from the blurry pics but should have one of 2 things. A. A back wedge, Internal wedge that pushes the glass out and locks the external beads in place. B. security clips holding the glass in. These are an ass to deal with, usually need to be cut out with an angle grinder and replaced

Fitting sliding doors – what’s involved?

Your structural engineer will tell you what can and cant be done when he specs the lintel. Generally they do a 500mm ish return from an external corner but I'm not sure what they would want on an adjoining side. Might be able to do a vertical steel post in the corner so its only a few 100mm.

Min door height in a commercial unit?

Can't be a fire door, then - no fire compartment to protect so why have a fire door? That was my main thinking on the whole thing but I generally work on domestic not commercial so wanted to check. I was thinking along the lines of if we were to completely replace the doors we would need to...

Min door height in a commercial unit?

Here is another pic up above the door. As you can see standard plasterboard/stud wall. Approx 300mm void above where the stud walls end then its just the metal roof, All completely open above all the rooms and offices (no fire breaks).

Min door height in a commercial unit?

As I say I don't think they are fire doors (certainly not to modern specs anyway) just solid core doors I think. I will take one off and feel how heavy it is. It has some wool brushpile strips around the frame but they don't go past/around the hinges and there is nothing between the 2 doors or...

Min door height in a commercial unit?

Hello again, Thanks for all your input guys. I know fire regs have got very strict since the Grenfell incident and they are so complex now its hard to know what you can and cant do. I have just had another thought/possible work around. What if we were to keep the existing doors but cut out the...

Min door height in a commercial unit?

They wanted double glazed PVC for the soundproofing really, Also full glass doors for the additional light. One of the downstairs offices has already done this but have gone with a good height. I'm certainly going to refuse to fit lower doors now but you guys have made me a little concerned...

Min door height in a commercial unit?

Hello Thanks for that, Good point about the general health and safety. The existing doors are not fire doors and the walls are certainly nothing more than standard stud walls. No fire brakes above the stud walls either. I guess I'm probably going to have to get building controls opinion and...

Min door height in a commercial unit?

Hello guys Anyone clued up on commercial regs? Ive got someone who wants me to fit PVC doors in this as cheap as possible. Its an upstairs office (near the top of the stairs/landing). The doors although solid don't have incandescent strips and the walls are just standard stud and plasterboard...

    Removing upvc window opener sash

Top hung or side hung? Side hung leave the top hinge side screw for last, hold under and around handle with other hand. Top hung small, balance it on your forearm. Top hung large de-glaze first. I have been known to do very large top hung window 3 storeys up off a ladder one side at a time on...

Can I replace timber bead with putty?

Any beading/finish needs to cover and protect the edge of the double glazed units from UV. Do not block drainage & ventilation gaps around or under the units Do not use Linsead putty as that will break down the double glazed units Other than that it maybe possible

    Conservation area windows

I haven't tried further afield than our town, Always try to use local company's where possible. The couple of consultants that are still operating in our town don't seem to like to get on the wrong side of the planning people, They don't like to argue the case and take the line of least...

    Conservation area windows

Thanks guys. I know rules for flats can be a bit odd and was wondering if they had classed the building we have done as some sort of house/maisonette with different rules? The owner being a landlord has been told he has 2 years to improve the thermal insulation of the building. We could do...

    Conservation area windows

Hi guys Just a lowly window fitter here with some questions for a customer. A couple of years ago a customer of mine managed to get planning permission (on appeal) to replace his sliding sash windows for PVC replicas in our town center. The only stipulation was that we had to use white...

    Aluminium Windows

If you did go with a standard 70mm deep frame the window could be fitted to the inside plaster reveal with the outsides rendered in. Looks like you have quite shallow external reveals so would improve weather proofing. Do you particularly want the white woodgrain effect or would plane white PVC...

Unable to remove euro cylinder - no screw

I personally go with the drill through the mullion option. The mullions can be a bit fiddly to remove/replace correctly and long term (If you ever lose keys want to change it again) makes life much easier

    Aluminium Windows

To be honest you have some nice large windows there so I don't think you would even really notice the odd 20mm here and there. Also bare in mind a little bit of the timber frames are behind the render so true frame sizes are probably pretty close to R9. The corners on the bays I expect are...
