    Part P renewal

So, Bazdaa, 1) choose the course, 2) before enlisting, ask the provider if passing it will satisfy all or only part of the entry requirements of NICEIC (or whichever organisation you prefer), 3) ask the NICEIC (or equiv.) the "reverse" question. Then you will be in a position to decide?

    Generator earthing

Agile, I think you have been wrongly advised. I just checked my Generac ED4000, "neutral" is not connected to frame. Also checked my Honda Ex1000, same. Spoke to Generac Technical, they advised that all their Generators are "floating Earth" Suggest you double check.

    Small tiles, uneven wall?

Thanks Mudster. I've had a Plasterer get it as good as he can already. I had thought of using combined, Tile & Grout, but had been advised that it goes off quite quickly; also, need dark grey grout. Is the Nicobond just adhesive?

    Small tiles, uneven wall?

Have some 40mm sq. tiles (on backing sheet 250mm sq.) to put on kitchen wall that undulates. Have got it as flat as poss, but was hoping to vary the adhesive thickness to improve finished flatness. Was thinking of using a slow setting adhesive so that I could fix perhaps 10 to 15 sheets of...

    Home rewire

Most Electricians seem to know others in their area, so could'nt you ask the injured one to suggest another he knows?, or, failing that, sign a letter to the effect that the first fix has been done to regs?

    Generator advice

Regret don't quite follow? The spurs that feed loads (Boiler, Fridge etc), are the same for both power sources, they are individually switched on DP switches between the supplies, on the load side of the CU's. The earths are unswitched, and all go to the rod. There is no connection between...

    Generator advice

When I remarked in my first post "Genny frame "earth" would = existing supply earth?", I suppose it would have been better to use " house system" rather than "supply". I was posing the general question "should Genny frame be connected to system earth, whatever type that is"?, and suggesting...

    Generator advice

Well, although leaving the Genny o/p "floating" would be safe, I prefer the neutral to be at earth potential "where you expect it to be", so I have made this link pre RCCB. It also means that the Genny mimics the local sub station, and the RCCD provides protection in the usual way.

    Generator advice

Instead of one big c/o switch, how about feeding the ccts. you want backed up with spurs, and using a panel of small c/o switches, after the CU? You would need to switch both live & neutral, and could feed the Genny in via it's own small CU with RCCD & MCB's. Genny frame "earth" would =...

    Locating mains incomer?

The iron water pipe that serves my house is leaking, caused by a big tree over it (on my property). If I dig a trench round the tree, the Water Co. will supply & connect up a new pipe. The incoming mains cable, and gas pipe, are also under the front lawn somewhere! Routes unknown. Ought I to...

2A fused spur for alarm. Help please

A 3A fuse is normal for an alarm FCU; note the panel itself will probably have a much smaller mains fuse. Only problem in taking it off the lighting circuit is that when a bulb blows, it often takes out the 6A MCB, and if it's not noticed,no alarm after the battery runs out, and the external...

    TT earthing-Wooden building?

Thanks guys. Fittings are below 3m, so was thinking of using those circular polycarbonate low energy fittings (outdoor types), will be class 2. Suppose I could always put another 30mA trip on the lighting circuit, that would make it safer? Doing both would surely overcome the lack of earth...

    70KVA Generator Keeps Tripping Out

A logical approach night be something like : -- Start up & engage breakers as usual, but only switch in half of them. Run for 30 min, has it tripped?: -- if yes, then allow to cool off & repeat with only half of those first half on. if no, then repeat with the other (first) half on. And so...
