Do I need roof battens on a log store roof?

I have to do the same thing. I presume I should use OSB3, but what thickness? With overhang it's 750mm x 1800mm and has a support half way along the 1800mm width. Thanks!

Ready mix mortar for sail posts?

I've bought a 4m x 3m garden sail with 2 galvanised steel posts (the other two corners will be attached to the house). The instructions say the poles should be set in holes 400mm x 400m x 800mm deep. The bottom 100mm should filled with gravel. I'm trying to work out how much ready mixed mortar...

Help - sound bar stopped working

Genius RandomGrinch - thank you. Sound bar working fine. Scrolling through the Input settings to get blue tooth working, realised sound bar had come off TV as source  I'd have RTFM if I could have found it. Many thanks

Help - sound bar stopped working

Hi folks I have a Majority Snowdon II sound bar, connected to a Hisense LHD32E130TUK TV (not a smart tv) with an optical cable. It's been working fine for seven months, but now even though the sound bar is on, no sound is coming out. Without another telly or sound bar, are there any diagnostics...

Painting old wall that is gloss and plaster

Wowsers - water-based, non-toxic, non-caustic, no fumes . . . "Trade Strip" removes all sorts, including oil-based and lead-based from any substrate inc plaster. Game on! Apart from hating the dust of sanding, I was concerned that it would be lead-based oil paint, so this looks like a viable...

Painting old wall that is gloss and plaster

Gardz looks like the alkali-resistant paint I've used previously in other rooms - underneath the wall paper was 1950s distemper

Painting old wall that is gloss and plaster

Thanks Nige F - Bulls Eye 123 looks good. Can't see I need the Plus. Thanks OchAye. I have washed the wall four times to get all the paste off. Yes, the sanding and filling it a worry. Thought I'd sand to create key, paint a first coat then sand again. One of the posts mentioned using steam to...

Painting old wall that is gloss and plaster

Help, what do I do? I've stripped off the old wall paper in the loo and have bare plaster with patches of gloss paint. I want a painted finish. I'll rub down the gloss paint to create a key. What's a good primer? Some of the posts here recommend Dulux Super Grip Primer. Would you use that? Or...

how to treat a pine table for outside use

Hey folks I've got an old pine table which I want to use outdoors. Another (very old) post says 8 coats of yacht varnish. Would I have to keep revarnishing, if so roughly how often? Is there any new product that would do the job with little maintenance. And what about the bottom of the legs...

Bodges, scrimping and Friday afternoon jobs

My aunt had a shower put into a downstairs bathroom in her old stone cottage. Very smart, her pride and joy . . . till one day a tiny (accidental) tap from my knee made the tiled wall cave in. Turns out the builder had used plasterboard to square off the wall, and tiled over it.

Bodges, scrimping and Friday afternoon jobs

That was standard practice in the early 1960's. Can remember my mum going loopy at my dad for doing that with a lamp!

Save me from myself - tempted to paint over vinyl wallpaper backing

Hi folks Have struggled all day with this. Please save me from myself - don't be too harsh! I've stripped the top vinyl layer off the wallpaper in my loo. The wallpaper is at least 20 years old and I'm left with the robust 'backing' paper which is very well stuck to the wall and I am sooooo...
