Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

A number of reasons, firstly an architect who i used a few years ago who was very popular made a big balls up on my plan resulting in a garage door opening needing reduced in size as the only last minute option for the builder i worked with. Doesn't fill me with confidence, so the more i...

    Ceiling heights in new builds?

Thanks, I was just trying to figure out, because regulations change so often, how much tolerance there was on a room height. I know in the past most builds were to suit 8ft ceilings unless it was an older style house. So was checking if you can have a bit of play on the 2.4m headroom which has...

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

1350 was just the size an architect suggested instead of a 1200 high window. 1800 wide x 1350mm height of the window opening with cill height just over 800 internally.

    Ceiling heights in new builds?

Firstly it's a forum, forums are for helping people out and providing constructive answers to peoples questions, if you find these questions annoying you should move on. Too many people on forums like you expect people to know everything and like to criticise or just argue with people. If they...

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

Are all windows classed as escape windows if they are the only window in the room? Is this short for something or sarcasm? What are critical locations? An architect suggested 1350mm deep window openings.

    Ceiling heights in new builds?

How thick is a floor screed, Are slab floors screeded? Chances are it will be beam and block then wet UFH on 150mm insulation if regs are 100/150. 70mm UFH screeds seem common.

    Ceiling heights in new builds?

So a 253mm joist on a masonry hanger, assuming the joist hanger being the same depth as the actual joist, would fit into the nearest course of bricks? Ie: 12 blocks (225 x 12 = 2700mm) - 253mm joist = 2447mm ceiling height which seems good.

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

I've seen a few times mentioning theres a maximum height of 1100mm for the lowest part of a window, don't know if this is for the lowest part of the brickwork window opening, or if it means to the actual upvc sash opening lowest point for escape regs? 1200 deep would mean an internal sill...

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

Do you know what the maximum window sill height is. I keep reading 1100mm max which is mainly for bathrooms and kitchens, but it doesn't say if it's 1100mm to the lowest part of the opening or whether it means to the top of the inside sill. To keep inline with brick courses the window opening...

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

So it's from the finished floor height to the actual glass, not the window sill? Looking at my own windows the glazing sits 120mm higher than the inside window sill. I have 120mm of frame & sash.

    Ceiling heights in new builds?

Couple of novice questions related to the standard ceiling height in a new new build so brick courses line up for joists, plasterboards and window sill heights. 1. Are ceiling heights 2400mm or 2475mm to allow for 22mm Weyrock floor, 12mm boarded ceiling and a gap between the bottom of the...

Window sill heights for toughened glass new build?

In a new build, how high do the window sills need to be from the finished floor level to avoid needing toughened or laminated glass? Where is the measurement taken from, is it from the finished concrete floor height or weyrock board to the top of the window sill, the actual glass in the frame...

Concrete facing bricks Vs clay bricks for house?

I've had a drive done years ago with some one off bricks and just made sure i had spares so not too much of an issue. Unless you build within a few years later, I've found most bricks seem to be discontinued anyway unless it's really common. I'll discuss with the builder regarding shrinkage and...

Concrete facing bricks Vs clay bricks for house?

How noticeable is this shrinkage & expansion in concrete, does it cause cracking in mortar or other issues? I will have to check because this brick is one that you order to be made and not stocked. I would like some project pictures or samples when they next do a batch. Many samples I've...

Concrete facing bricks Vs clay bricks for house?

It has a lot of trees around so algae could be an issue, not sure how much vs clay but it will probably be an issue either way, i wanted to check the frost damage wasnt a big issue or anything i dont know about because the price is quite a bit cheaper than some clay bricks. I prefer them to...

Concrete facing bricks Vs clay bricks for house?

I have seen two nice facing bricks to use for the outer leaf of a house build. One is clay, the other is concrete. The concrete one is the preferred choice but I wonder how it scores against clay over time, any differences or both suitable? Both are around 8% moisture resistant, Clay has a U...

I've two options for locating the meter and the tank location is quite central to the house for everything except the kitchen tap which is unfortunately the most commonly used. in a straight line it will be 6.5m from the tank, but by the time it comes up from the tank into the roof space along...

Combi or system boiler for new build with UFH?

    1. Individual room stats downstairs was just a thought, having some individual room stats might be a waste of time with MVHR because it's distributing the air around the home anyway and might provide an average temperature. Because a stove will be fit in the living room, without an individual...
