Tiling in a ply lined shower enclosure

A tiled shower cubicle with plywood walls and bonded with PVA  I can't believe it lasted 3 years. WBP ply isn't water proof, it just wont delaminate when it gets wet, but it will absorb water. PVA is a terrible idea in bathrooms, water re-activates it and it softens. Either...

    Indesit WD - Keeps filling

Thanks for that. Took the hose out, went to wash and found a hole in it. It has been rubbing against the side of the machine where the drum has been spinning. Anyway checked the switch by covering the hole and blowing down it. That clicks. £2 for a new hose job done!

    Indesit WD - Keeps filling

I have a Indesit Washer/Dryer, quite possibly the most unreliable piece of rubbish I have ever owned. Not sure of the model, it has 5 LEDs on the right to indicate the stage in the cycle it is at in green with a red door lock light at the bottom. When I select a program sometimes the top...

    Moistsure Tile Backer

Never heard of it. What is wrong with Wickes? B & Q stock both Aquapanel and Hardibacker.

Tiling over 22mm Chipboard (MR) ?

Yes use a notched trowel. Your tiles are quite large so you need a larger notched trowel, 10mm square should be ok. You should also back butter the tile before laying. Read upon on tile laying technique. Yes you need to use flexible addy and grout. Unless you are confident in your ability...

Tiling over 22mm Chipboard (MR) ?

24mm ply will be fine. BAL is more expensive than others but it is a trade quality product and recommend by most pros. Topps Tiles are very expensive for non-trade card members. If you are buying a few bits from them you can ask for a discount, some stores/managers will give it to you...

Tiling over 22mm Chipboard (MR) ?

You maybe able to get 22mm from other places. That was just the first one I came across. It is not as common at the 25mm which you can get in any timber yard and DIY shed. The usually also do half sheets as well. Using the chipboard is a risk. It maybe fine, it quite probably wont be...

Tiling over 22mm Chipboard (MR) ?

You can get 22mm Plywood, its just not stocked by the usual sheds. This place here for one has it: http://www.james-chambers.co.uk/sheet-material/exterior-w-b-p-plywood/w-b-p-eterior-plywood-1231.html You may get away with the chipboard but it is generally considered to be a useless base...

    Dealing with corrosion

Cheers John. You must have smaller hands than me, those rear spark plugs are a bugger to get to! Bodywork is fine, just the exposed metal. The Honda service guide says to put copper grease on the hub flange to stop it sticking, but looks like this was never done, the alloys are bubbling...

    Dealing with corrosion

We have a Honda Jazz which spent the first 4 years of its life on the seafront in South Wales. Consequently it has been subjected to an extraordinary amount of rain and sea spray. My wife was complaining that the brakes were vibrating. I jacked it up to take a look. Had a job getting the...

    Bathroom sealant question

It sounds like either the surface wasn't cleaned properly when it was sealed or the bath wasn't filled with water to weigh it down and now it is pulling on it when filled. Silicone sticks to most things except itself so patching is not easy and unlikely to produce a good result. You could...

    Strange battery issue

That's interesting. We swapped the old Jazz with the in laws as they were trading in and were not going to get much for it. The point is that we didn't inspect the car. They live on the seafront and suffer from salt corrosion quite badly, I noticed when checking the battery that a lot of...

    Strange battery issue

Thought I would dig up this old thread and a something new. We recently changed the Jazz we had to a slightly newer and higher spec Jazz. Guess what we have just had the same problem. Interestingly when you Google search "honda jazz" the suggested search terms has honda jazz flat battery...

    Aquapanel or Glasroc H Tilebacker

I've used aquapanel. It is really easy to cut. Just score and snap like you do with plasterboard. I don't think there is much difference between aquapanel and hardibacker. I went for the aquapanel because is was on offer when I bought it.

    Cracking grout

I'm afraid whoever installed the tiles originally is a complete plank. The grout is cracking because there is too much movement in the floor. Scrapping the grout out and replacing wont fix-it and it will re-crack again in no time. You might be able to fill the gaps with silicone but it...

    Help with tile choice

I would spend a bit more time choosing your fitter before deciding on the tiles. 9mm ply is not thick enough to prevent movement and cracking. If over boarding it should be 12-15 mm. Movement in a suspended timber floor has to be dealt with, fitting smaller tiles in the hope the movement...

    Internal insulation - solid walls.

    Cleaning stain on travertine

Do you know what colour tile adhesive was used when they were installed? Light colour travertine tiles should be put down with white addy. The standard grey can leach through and stain the tile.

Silicone not sticking to wet wall
