    Cold external solid wall question

You don't need to plaster but it gives a better finish. You can simply dry line which involves using tappered edge plaster board and skiming/sanding the joints. This is largely what they do in America I learnt recently. Then prime and paint directly on the plasterboard

    First plastering job

Yes I think you are probably right. I wouldn't fancy plastering an entire wall just yet.

    First plastering job

    What would you recommend then?

    First plastering job

It's not the wall in the shower, that has been tiled. It is the bit outside the shower which had an end exposed.

    First plastering job

I've just done my first bit of plastering. It is easier than I thought and I have a nice smooth finish, couple of rough spots but not too bad. It was only a small area where I had replaced a wall for a shower cubilce. The probem is I didn't plan on doing two coats and I haven't got a thick...

    audi a4 parking sensors

The Audi sensors are quite well known for going wrong. As Burnerman says if you get the continous beep like you are about to hit something then it is usually a sensor. Take it to a VAG specialist (not a main dealer) they will be able to perform a scan of the system and tell you which one is...

New Shower - Hot Water Supply "Hammers" on switch

I have installed a new shower today, when I turn it in it is ok but then I turn it off the hot water pipe hammers and makes quite a noise. I can see the pipe jump as it does it. I have secured the pipes to the wall but it still does it. The pipes rise from the floor and have a single bend...

    UnVented System - Bleeding radiators

I have a Vailiant EcoMax Pro 28E boiler and a megaflow unvented system. A couple of radiators are only getting hot at the bottom. I was going to bleed them but then I read that I need to re-pressurise the system afterwards. It said that this is done by usually opening the tap on a flexibile...

    B & Q Basin to Go

I had a similar issue when I got my B & Q sink. I guessed the holes were large to allow for adjustment. Trouble was they were larger than the biggest washer B & Q sold! They had a repair washer which was bigger but the centre hole was too small to get the coach bolt through.

    Cavity Wall Insulation?

Had some on round to inspect the cavity. Apparently it is well know that when our houses were built the certificates were signed to say the cavity walls had been insulated but they weren't! They did a borescope inspection and sure enough the cavities are empty. Got an ECO subsidy so it is...

    Can't find matching skirting board

Thanks. There is a buildcentre timber branch not far from me. Might go down and have a chat and see what they have got. The closest I coudl find had the three reeded profile which is the main part I want but the delivery was more than the skirting.

Grout Reviver - Can't get it off my shower tiles!

The problem is more the length of time you left it on before wiping it off. A couple of hours is far too long, 15 mins is about the usual. These things are pretty rubbish and are a sticking plaster fix. I used it once and had similar problems with the sponge head being to big. You could...

    Mains Wired Smoke Alarms

Thanks Alarm. I am very competent at DIY - I am currently re-doing our ensuite bathroom (plumbing, tiling, fitting shower, paint etc.). Electrics I don't fully understand and so it is best I don't do them. If I do something wrong I could electrocute myself or burn my house down ( and my new...

    Mains Wired Smoke Alarms

Thanks flameport. I have been planning to put the kitchen door on. It is in the garage. The cooking smells travel all round thouse as it (even with an extractor). We have a condensing Gas boiler which in is the upstairs airing cupboard with the Megaflow tank. This has a fire door with...

    Mains Wired Smoke Alarms

Ah, fair enough. There is no door on the kitchen currently so no point. Will get some one in to advise on the alarms. Think I might get some CO monitors hard wired too as we currently have battery powered ones of those.

    Mains Wired Smoke Alarms

Cheers. The previous owner had a downlight fetish and installed them everywhere (not in the garage though thankfully) including some non-waterproof ones in the bathroom above the bath (one is litterally about 6 inches from the shower head). I am in the process of removing them all. From...
