Sorry, that's what I meant. From the centre of the joist to the centre of the next joist. Sorry for not explaining myself very well.
Regarding the firrings, it would not be 6.5m only 6m
The joists will be going along the width of the house (which is 6.5m). The firrings will be going from...
The length of the timber is 6.5m This is the width of the extension. I double checked with the architect. The timber will be 75 x 220mm C16 roof joists at 400cc From what I can tell, that means that the gap between each joist will be 400mm from the centre of each joist.
100x50mm wall plate...
Hi all
I am building an extension and the width of my extension is 6.5m (the width of my house). The length will be 6m. The joists will be going width ways (6.5m long).
My plans state I must have a drop which is at least 1 in 80. So, by my calculation I need a drop of 75mm (1/80*6*1000)...
Sorry, I explained incorrectly. I trust the person who recommended the bricklayer. You're right as so far as the price is the price but I wanted a rough idea from people on here before I got quotes to know if the prices were reasonable.
I've been recommended someone who is going to view the job tomorrow and then give me his quote in the next few days. The person who recommended him I trust implicitly. I just hope he's reasonable.
I genuinely have no problem in paying someone a good wage for a good days work but I don't like being taken for a ride.
You tell me.........
Approximately 73sq meters of area to be covered (6x6x6.5 and the height is about 4.2m less windows/doors)
Brick outside (LBC Heather). Block...
Thank you for all your advise.
So far I haven't been very impressed with the quotes I've had. In fact, in my opinion they must think I've got 'mug' tattooed on my forehead.
I'm not into bargaining with people. The price is the price as far as I'm concerned.
I'm going to have to keep on...
Hi there
I was going to use LBC Heather bricks which are approximately £350 per pack (each pack containing 390 bricks) and I think I'm going to need about 6 packs. This brings the total of the cost of the outer bricks being about £2100. Am I missing something here? Sorry for sounding stupid.
Sorry for not responding earlier but I've been rather busy.
I haven't even really had a chance to digest the most recent post. Once I have no doubt I'll be asking a few questions!!
, the bricklayer will be bricking from the concrete footings up to DPC level and then either take a break for a while whilst I sort out the hardcore/sand blinding etc or just continue up to the top and take a break while the roof is being laid. Then continue with the parapet.
He will be...
I've been quoted £53 per square meter for block/insulation/brick.
This means that a room which is 6x6x6.5 including the laying of engineering bricks and above the ceiling (parapet) is going to cost me approximately £3550. I've worked it out be about 67 square metres.
I've been told by...
Hi all
I've just been quoted by a bricklayer and he has basically told me that he charges an amount per square meter. His charge is for outer and inner and insulation. I will require approximately 67sq meters.
I'll give you his charge per square meter in further post (if required).
I...
Hi all
I've just bought this wacker plate http://www.mascus.co.uk/specs/petrol_980975/dynapac/lf-62_988806 on Ebay and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it.
Apparently they cost about £900 brand new (or the latest model does).
I'm going to be using it for type 1 hardcore and...
Thank you for your response. I have looked at a couple of Youtube videos. They make it look simple enough to lay yourself!!!
I've looked at the costs and it looks like it's about £700 not including installation. For example...
Hi all
I'm having a new extension built and I was thinking about getting underfloor heating. People have told me that it is the way forward.
The extension will be a new kitchen/diner and an extension to my living room.
It will be 39sq meters. The problem is, I have yet to decide how...
Not exactly a nice thing to call him! I agree that it sounds highly unusual but instead of just calling him a muppet you should explain why he is, in your opinion, a muppet.
By the way, which muppet is he?!?!
Sorry to sound stupid here, but why can't you just work it out for real and not use a manual?
Just fill up the tank, set the meter to zero and then drive..........and drive and drive.
Then fill up the tank again and record the mileage used. Simple.
Lots of things to take into consideration.
Yes, I am in London (NW). Yes, I do have drains that will have lintels over them. No brick detailing or gables.
I've had a look at Trustatrader.com
Unfortunately I don't know any bricklayers and although I would like to try it myself I really...
Hi all
I've been led to believe that the cost of a bricklayer should be approximately £150 per day.
Is that correct?
I'm looking for a bricklayer to build an extension which will be 6m x 6m x 6.5m and will be approximately 2.4m high.
There will be an 'empty space' of approximately...
