    Noisy Baxi Bermuda Boiler

I had this after the heat exchanger was removed and re-fitted on my Baxi Bermuda. Same symptoms as you describe. Only after A LOT of messing and part swapping we found that the plastic water spreader (which is screwed into the heat exchanger) was broken. This means that the water is not pumped...

    Annex heating choices

Off topic I know but......Understood re planning and renting...same conditions were imposed here but really saw no option to renting when the annex was assessed as being a separate dwelling and given it's own Band A council tax bill ! One to watch for.

    Annex heating choices

Whilst I wish your elderly relative as long and healthy life as is possible, do consider that in the future you may be renting the annex out. We did the same 30 years ago. We installed LPG heating so that the relative could have a gas fire. The relative is no longer with us, so we now rent out...

    Colour matching.

Hi, Thanks for that. The paint I had was no good, miles off. I went back to Crown and got some BS 14 C 35 made up in Satin and it matches a treat. andytw

    Colour matching.

Hi, Is there a preferred way to match a paint colour ? In short I have a new UPVC conservatory and the UPVC is foil wrapped in 'Chartwell Green'. Whilst this is indeed the colour I am not sure it can be bought off the shelf as a tin of paint. I took a sample to Crown and their machine scanned...

Whatever happened to those siphonic toilets?

From my limited D-I-Y experience the 'bomb' itself can't really wear out as it is just a circular piece of plastic. HOWEVER the rubber washer/grommet that seals the bomb to the toilet body will wear out and without the seal you will not have syphonic action. I did source a complete bomb for one...

    Radiators getting hot without pump

Correct, the spring holds the valve closed so no gravity flow. When the room stat comes on and calls for heat the room stat sends power to the valve which now opens. When the valve is fully open an internal microswitch in the valve sends power to the central heating pump. When the room is up to...

    Radiators getting hot without pump

I have 2 of these in let properties and definitely had hot rads in one of them. I did the same as you have just done. It didn't fix the problem. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. To fix the problem I put a zone valve in the flow from the boiler to the radiators. This is normally closed. The...

    SYPHONIC ASPIRATOR

I've only dealt with Armitage on the two that I have and the aspirator is screwed to the bottom of the syphon pipe, so it is all one solid unit. Why do you need to replace the syphon ? andytw

Thermostatic Valve Head Snapped Off :-(

I was going to say just get a head...it's a xxx, but I searched and cannot match it. I guessed someone here might recognise it. (I am not in the trade just a d-i-y'er). Failing getting a new head, you'll need to replace the whole valve with it's new head. You'll need a 10mm version or at least...

    PIRs and pets

Hi, Have read up quite a bit on here, but just decided to do something. I get the odd false alarm in one room from a cat. Don't really want to keep the room closed off so am looking to 'improve' pet immunity. I currently have Honeywell IS-215TQ Quad PIRs. Could I expect to be better...

    Washing Machine Problem

Fully endorse all the replies. Personally I would re-plumb but can't the OP just use a hose joiner to join old hose to new hose. Could be a lot of hose to lose around the back of the machine but he does appear to want a quick fix. http://www.screwfix.com/p/brass-hexagon-nipple-1/29781...
