    Connecting new timer to CH/HW

Cool, Cheers Chris. I assume my plumber won't have any pitfalls installing different brands of timer on the same boiler? My house has a very minimalistic look and has literally nothing in it at the moment (the airing cupboard has been removed, and we don't plan on having any built-in wardrobes).

    Connecting new timer to CH/HW

Thanks for the replies. I bought the control ages ago and only tried to get it installed this weekend, so I'm well past the 14 day return period. Can the Horstmann timer be used to only do HW (ie, can I still run the CH timing through my RF Celect), or do I need to find a 1 channel timer...

    Connecting new timer to CH/HW

Hi, we've recently had a new boiler/unvented cylinder installed to replace the old open vented system in our house. We are having a rewire at the same time, so the boiler and cylinder are currently disconnected from mains and programmer. My plumber asked me to get hold of a wireless stat, so...

    Rewire costs

Unless you can find a spark who'll fit it all then certify the work for £200, I don't really see how it's achievable for much less than £2500

    Rewire costs

£1700 seems too cheap to... going through my rewire at the moment and the parts (mostly plain white sockets too) on a 4 bed house were about £1500

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

I appreciate that, but that's why he is checking every connection at the end of the job. He will see the entire first fix and I'm sure will have no problem with telling me to redo sections. He said he usually gets a labourer to pull up floorboards, cut boxes into walls and run cables through...

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

Do you often accuse people of lying on forums? Not that it's any of your business particularly but my electrician is a family friend who is happy to test and certify my install. Thanks for the "advice" as always bas

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

Ok I'm gonna order these then, they appear to tick all the boxes http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/FRSHGUCBR.html

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

I assume these will be ok (for both rooms) then? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/FRSHGUCBR.html They are 240v, IP65, fire rated. Looks like a winner all round as they will be safe, protect against fire encroaching through ceilings and can be used with low voltage (CFL or LED) bulbs.

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

I thought light fittings in bathrooms needed to be 12v now? If I could use 240v it would make life easier as I could use energy saving bulbs, although I'm unsure whether that would be safe directly above the shower cubicle. I'll send these lights back, but can anyone recommend an alternative...

Another question about downlighters in a bathroom

Hi, I know there have been loads of threads on this, but.... We're having the ceiling in the bathroom replaced (old sagging lathe and plaster taken out), and I thought it would be a good time to fit downlights*. The ones I've bought are not IPxx rated, but are 12v . My ceiling will be over...

    Wiring an immersion heater

In all honestly, I've heard loads of good things about his plumbing, and the system seems to be installed properly (really neat install, and obviously the parts that are wired in work perfectly). I have no concerns about his plumbing really, I'm just a bit concerned about the laisez-faire...

    Wiring an immersion heater

He shrugged his shoulders and said "flex" which doesn't really fill me with confidence about his electrical ability (if it's any consolation, his plumbing is s*** hot  ). I guess that means he'd be happy putting it on 2.5mm, and he'd happily sign that off. My concern is, he doesn't have...

    Wiring an immersion heater

Hi, just had a new boiler and unvented cylinder fitted. The plumber hasn't wired in the immersion heater (he wanted to surface mount the cables... right through my house) whereas I want to lift the floorboards and put the cable down properly. He asked if I could run the cable from the CU to the...

House insurance that covers DIY issues

We actually had a fire at our house 3 months ago - it happened 4 days after I completed on the house and 5 days after I took out the insurance policy. I had their fraud team go over my last 10 years of insurance history before they would sign it off. Oh, and it was genuinely not a "fix"...

House insurance that covers DIY issues

Just make sure it looks like an "accident". Your wife crying in the background while you call the insurance company adds at least 20% onto their settlement figure
