New boiler cuts out ? pipework

Seems a little bit harsh. At the end of the day, there are 17 existing radiators which you would assume the OP is happy with there output and performance, so why go to all the bother of heat loss calculations etc when the old appliance, which was lower rated, did the job perfectly well. The...

    Which oil tank?

Only fitted harlequin and titan, but harlequin wins hands down on ease of installation and for quality None have been in for longer than 5 years though so no idea on test of time etc. Don't rate Titan much, the shut off valves in a differant place everytime (EST top entry), sometimes the lid...

    what a nice contract term!

I would take it on the chin, it's not your fault, but neither is it the customers. One of those things I suppose. Always better to keep your customers happy, especially if they owe you money! Trying to get money out of non payers customers is more hassle than its worth most of the time, no...

Shoddy work giving tradesmen a bad name.

Hep20 has a 50 year guarantee apparently  belive it when i see it. Always used copper and E/F but one of the contracts I am involved in now prohibit's the use of blow lamps in the loft spaces, so it's all done in hep now. It does have its advantage's, particularly in lofts on a...

    floor standing combi boilers

Hi, Basically you will struggle to find a boiler which can use the chimney you have now. Depending on your chimney, you may have a change in directon which would make fitting a new metal flue into the chimney awkward, plus reg's state the flue should be visable for routine inspection along...

    floor standing combi boilers

Does the old boiler use a built chimney or does it have a vertical flue made from metal up through the roof? You could install any boiler in the same place, providing there is a wall to mount it on, and run a vertical flue through the roof. Wether or not you choose a combi makes no odd's...

    condensate pipe

Run it in 32mm as soon as possible. Also don't glue in a reducer, but drop the 21.5mm into the open end of the 32mm. If it ever blocks in the 32mm it will overflow out of here instead of backing up to the boiler. With the recent cold spell, frozen condensate's have been a ball ache, 32mm is...

Flow and return for solar panels

One panel would be fine on 15mm. Really you want a solar cylinder though which has a differant coil (15mm connections) Also the solar circuit doesn't contain heating water, its a glycol based solution. Don't forget, no soft soldered joints, use compression. HTH Sam

    Ferroli or Vaillant?

I'd sooner have a boiler installed with a 2 year warranty which never needs to be used, rather than a 5 year warranty which get's used twice a year.

Replacing boiler, to combi or not to combi

Sounds like you've had on the whole, some really bad advise. Personally I would advise against a combi and agree with BG. Firstly, long runs to hot taps cause delays in hot water and bowls of cold thrown away. Secondly topping up your heating system with water which has been lost through...

80/125mm combi boiler flue extensions compatibility

The condensifit worcester flue uses's a pushfit style rubber connection. Glowworm/vaillant use a clamp on the outer seal. You might be able to but would expect the manufacturer to state in the book only there stuff to be used. How far do you have to go with it in ducting? I always pop...

New Boiler = Must put TRV's on all rads?

Really? New rad's have fin's on the back so convect heat better, hold less water and are made of thinner material to dissapate the heat easier.
