    Attic Purlins Window

Thanks. It appears there is minimum height requirements for roof windows, So I will probably need an architect to do proper drawings as well as a structural engineer for weight bearing calculations etc

    Attic Purlins Window

Thanks. Just to confirm I am reading that right, I do NOT need a structural engineer for a vellux BELOW the purlin, ie, the purlin remains in situ? Thanks.

    Attic Purlins Window

Thanks builder said “Hi you would need a structural engineer to see it first and give you a load bearing report plus building control will only let you put bottom of the window 1080 to 1180 from floor level so you might need a long velux for views but can certainly price for it after that many...

    Attic Purlins Window

Yes that’s what i’m thinking. I wouldn’t mind having a large one above the purlin on one side and 2 smaller ones below the purlin on the other side (where the best views are) but i’m not sure you can fit them below purlin ?

    Attic Purlins Window

Hello. I would like to get 2 velux windows fitted either side of my roof space. There are a number of houses on my row (1920s mid-semis) who have got the old “floored and insulated” and are very stupidly using as bedrooms, no building control, no architects, structural engineer etc. Anyway, I...

    Alcove Gap

Brilliant thanks the caulk saver idea is genius. I have lots of the paint it’s a farrow and ball downpipe so it’s pretty forgiving so is there any advantage on using a coloured caulk as opposed to just painting over the white? Thanks

    Brick Paving

Thanks. Won’t the sand be washed out the next time it’s power washed or does it harden? Was looking at this stuff instead? https://www.diy.com/departments/sika-fastfix-ready-mixed-quick-dry-dark-buff-jointing-compound-15kg-plastic-tub/5055492703644_BQ.prd

    Alcove Gap

I am in the process of fitting fronts to some alcove shelves. I have installed LED lights behind them and spend a long, long, long time doing this (I’m not a pro). I left a little lip so that the lights are hidden and it looks great however, on 2 of the front bits, there is a 5mm gap on either...

    Brick Paving

I’m getting this area power washed on Monday. Once all the weeds and much are removed from the gaps, is there anything I can brush into them that will HELP stop weeds growing? I read about kiln sand but surely the next time it gets power washed the sand will just come out? Thanks in advance.

    Masking Tape

Planning on glossing the house including skirtings doors and architraves. May sound like a stupid question, but what is the masking tape people use? I’ve used some cheap some in the past and spent more time touching up the paint it was stuck to as it pulled the paint off. Thanks in advance.

    Attic Brick Walls

Thanks folks. I think the brick slips are the way to go. In terms of beams, I’m going to make some of these -

    Attic Brick Walls

I am planning on getting my attic converted into a bedroom. Nothing fancy, velux windows, electrics, heating, insulation, flooring etc. I am going through building control. Had an architect out this morning to have a look. The house is a 1920's mid terraced and the attic has exposed brick walls...
