    Screws with blunted ends

How do you explicitly refer to a screw that has blunted ends, for driving into metal pre-threaded holes, rather than making their own holes in wood?

Decking configuration - attach decking boards to noggins?

Okay, well, here it is again with the decking boards rotated. I might change the design again just to include balustrades which may help grandmama to climb and alight the deck but otherwise, I'm pleased with the configuration. With decking boards: Without decking boards:

Can I mount my Bosch router with these mystery holes?

Well slap my head and call me Beatrice! I can't find any information on it but I will probably just go ahead and buy that expensive(!) purpose-built thing. I can affix this auto part to my forehead or something. :) Thanks.

Decking configuration - attach decking boards to noggins?

Well that's what my query was about. The reasoning was that it meant less cuts. I've switched the boards around now.

Can I mount my Bosch router with these mystery holes?

:D How can you tell? (and why would a car need an emergency stop switch?). If needs be, I'll roll the dice again and buy another :)

Decking configuration - attach decking boards to noggins?

I'm still working on the layout of a proposed decking scheme. The concrete surface below is uneven so bricks and mortar will be used to provide level points on which C16-grade 145mm x 45mm joists will rest. I have designed a configuration that should require the minimum number of cuts but I...

Can I mount my Bosch router with these mystery holes?

Oh, of course! Those screw threads! Thank you! :) I've bought one of these stop switches: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140409697187 and will put it in between my extension lead and the socket, making a very special extension lead. :)

Can I mount my Bosch router with these mystery holes?

Hi. My router has a button to remain permanently on, so I'll be sure to use it. With regard to the screws though, the holes in the base plate aren't threaded. Does that matter?

Can I mount my Bosch router with these mystery holes?

I have a Bosch POF 1200 AE router which I'd like to mount to a simple home-made router table, with a simple pivoting fence. The manual doesn't say anything about mounting the router to a router table and does not include any fixings for doing so. There are three holes in the base plate (and the...

Where to buy hardwood for drawer rails and dowel spacing

I'm designing a bookcase which I will build from PSE redwood. I would like some advice regarding the drawer rails and the spacing of dowels. I need some short lengths of hardwood to serve as drawer rails (I've read that softwood on softwood is a bad idea) but neither B&Q nor Wickes appear to...

Using metric drill bits with imperial stops?

Would it be sheer madness to try to use a set of drill stops such as these http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=TL01439&CMP=e-2072-00001000 with drill bits defined in millimetres? 7/16 of an inch is 11.11 mm. I wonder if that's enough to render it unsuited to a 10 mm drill bit.

Biscuit joints with a Router – how?

Maybe you could fashion some manner of holding the router in the workmate without compromising safety? There are also guides on the internet for constructing your own router table. If that's too much work, perhaps you could achieve sufficient strength using many dowel joints? Also, my bottle of...

Biscuit joints with a Router – how?

I did it once and just ended up with a lot crumbs. Mother said I should have used custard creams instead of digestives, but I wouldn't listening to her if I were you. There's a youtube video of an angry Scotsman using a router upside down in a JimmyJig (a weird old workbench thing)...

Ordinary drill bit to drill holes for dowel pins?

Is it necessary to use a special drill bit in order to make holes for dowel pins or will an ordinary drill bit suffice?

    How to make crawl boards?

I want to make some crawl boards so that I can mess around in the loft and whatnot and I was wondering what I can make them out of? I would like to use the cheapest wood but not so much so that I'm willing to risk falling through the ceiling! Are there particular boards that I shouldn't use...

    Concrete removal through jackhammering

Our yard used to be used for parking our car but fell out of use and the doors were ultimately replaced with a wall and a small gate as part of a refurbishment. It is hoped that the yard can be converted into something approximating a garden with pebbles and some paving and/or decking. The...

    Housing one's velocipede

Good work, gentlemen! Rendering is precisely what I meant but knew not the terminology to properly convey! Ultimately, I decided to use feather-edge fencing boards which I am delighted to find have also been concurrently suggested here. They are probably a more economical and also more...

    Housing one's velocipede

I would like to construct a lean-to shed to house my bicycle. I've composed a rough sketch of my proposition which you can see below. I plan to have a few shelves at one end and I plan to use this treated timber. One of my questions pertains to the sheet materials needed for the roof...

    Building myself a wardrobe

Could someone let me know if this is a stupid idea? I want to build a wardrobe in my bedroom and I'd like it to have Japanese-style shoji doors. Building those doors from scratch would be a right ole carry on, given that I haven't worked with wood since I made a spice rack in year 9. Thus, I'd...
