    Cracks in plaster

I'm having the room skimmed because the walls are quite rough, bumps etc. I intend to re-decorate so i want some smoother walls, it'll look nicer! Also its good that we know a decent plasterer. He had to re-do our front room that 2 previous plasters made a mess of. He did a good crack free job! Phil

    Cracks in plaster

I didn't notice them when i painted the room about 3 years ago. I would therefore say they are new cracks. Hope our house isn't falling down! I don't know if it has anything to do with having french doors fitted in the kitchen below. We had a small window knocked out and doors fitted. It was a...

    Cracks in plaster

Hello, i've noticed quite a few horizontal and a couple of vertical cracks in a bedroom. The plaster is old, the house is 1950s so i would think that the plaster has been there for quite a few years. The cracks are on both internal and external walls. The area doesn't sound hollow though which i...

    Repairing plaster - advice needed

Its plaster and the undercoat is that browning stuff, our house is a 1950s construction. Some of the browning is crumbling so thats why i think its best to knock that off too. Phil

He didn't put any pva on. He just brushed on some Thompson one coat damp seal ultra so hopefully that should sort it. I asked him if i still need a watered down first coat of paint but he said neat will be fine. Phil

Help! Paint bubbling while painting new plaster

It sounds like it could be a damp issue. I got the plasterer back round today he checked the outside wall and there was a powdery substance on the render. Anyway hes coming back in the morning to apply this clear damp seal called thomson/thompson. Then some watered down pva to seal the wall. All...

Help! Paint bubbling while painting new plaster

Thanks for your replies. I didn't sand or wipe the wall down i just applied 2 mist coats. I know now i should have wiped that dusty area! That sounds like the cause. Do you think i've added too much water? I've read that because dulux is quite thick you can a bit more water. Thanks. Phil

Help! Paint bubbling while painting new plaster

Most of the mist coat has dried but the offending paint was quite soft. I've scraped that off with ease as far as it goes. The area of plaster was quite dusty like plaster dust but i ignored this and painted anyway.Could this be a possible cause? Help please! Phil

Help! Paint bubbling while painting new plaster

Hello, i started painting new plaster with Dulux white matt emulsion watered down by 20%. As i was applying the paint with a roller it bubbled in places and came off with the roller. I've painted other new plastered walls in the same room with no problems. What could be causing this? Thanks. Phil
