    To Turf or Seed

4 weeks in, It's start to thicken out in areas, though still patchy. When should I do the 1st cut? Think I am going to re-seed the patchy bits to thicken it up

    To Turf or Seed

Ah yes I am watering every evening. I am pinching the weeds I can reach, but ones in the center I was unsure, as I would have to step on the new grass. I suppose I could setup a scaffolding plank and bricks so not to step on it. Cheers for the reply.

    To Turf or Seed

Hi After a couple of weekends of weeding, flattening, turning over, more weeding, sifting stones, chicken manure, seeding etc. 10 days later it is looking like Rooney's hair mid transplant. What should I do for the full Trump toupee. Should I scatter more seeds? Scatter and trying to turn over...

    DIY a Block Paving Driveway

Ok I know this is likely a 'how long is a piece of string' question. But how long would you estimate it takes an average DIY'er to lay a block paving driveway? It's roughly 70 m2, concrete that has cracked over the years with cars on it. Thinking of hiring a mini digger to remove the existing...

Driveway - Pressed Concrete or Resin?

Second question, would you bother DIY ing any of this, hiring a mini digger, skip, etc. Or is it not worth is for savings.

Driveway - Pressed Concrete or Resin?

Hi I haven't got a water meter. I was thinking those depressions were inline with the wheels of a vehicle. I think my neighbour used to park their van on the drive. Though they haven't since I moved there (think he moved on..)

Driveway - Pressed Concrete or Resin?

Hi Below are photos of the existing shared driveway. We are widening (note where the wall has been knocked down) and want to resurface from front to back. We don't want to spend a lot on it, have ruled out block paving, but still want a nice finish. I haven't had any quotes yet, as I don't know...

    To Turf or Seed

Hi I have an 'average' sized garden for my semi. There were 3 fruit trees originally, however by the time I got there, the was a stump in the middle of the lawn and an apple tree which dominated the end of the garden. After a couple of good years of Cider, I've taken out the Apple tree and...

Looking for new victorian style door locks

These below are the existing door locks, which are falling apart and require replacing (internals not working, lost keys etc). We'd like to replace like for like (though not too bothered with the small sliding locks (as a child might get locked in). As we like the look of them and more...

Can you recognise my alarm and tell me how to reset it?

After some Google ing and frankly ****ing about I called someone in. It's seems during the last bit of work the cable to a sensor got damaged. (the next might not be 100% correct ) The cable has 8 wires in pairs, and 2 pairs were damaged, but managed to salvage a working pair from them. I was...

Can you recognise my alarm and tell me how to reset it?

We've had our alarm working for a while now, however after some work on the house it won't set itself. When we arm it, it normally beeps quickly, then slows beeping when you leave, however it doesn't seem to set itself on.. Here it is, if anyone can give me the name and/or point me towards a...

    Burnt carpet how to repair

Thanks for the replies We looked at trimming it back and having a wide oak strip, however placing some thin wood down, it looked a but silly. We're going with the trim some carpet from under the wardrobe in the alcove (Sorry new buyers in 5years...) and attaching that.Probably with the spray...

    Burnt carpet how to repair

So a paint gun mistake has lead to a slight burn/melt of the carpet by the door. My thoughts are to trim a strip from under the wardrobe, in the alcove (its never going to be moved) and then fix it down. Is there any carpet gaffer tape to go under and fix them together? Would rather not...

Corner broken off victorian iron fireplace, how to mend?

I was thinking some very strong glue the type that has two tube you mix? Use that to glue a metal plate under it and on the join. Then some filler for the missing bits on the corner? Open to suggestions. Currently in the dog house as haven't fixed this in ages. Thanks

Fitting Skirts, after carpet, do I trim skirts or carpet (half skirts already fitted)

By that you mean I pull up the carpet, fit the skirts, then re-fit the carpet, trimming it where appropriate? Would I need one of those knee kicker tools? or not needed as the carpet has already been 'stretched'? To get a clean edge, should I use a stanley knife (or anything better), do you...
