Pros and cons of Portabase for shed

Hi, No, use 4x4 presure treated timber posts set in to the postcrete. You need to dig the holes, compact the bottom and then fill about half (don't quote me on that) deep with water. Then set the post in and pour the postcrete in, level up the post and allow to set (which isn't long)...

Pros and cons of Portabase for shed

Hi, Don't use spikes, as you say it'll probably sink more where there's more weight in the shed. 4x4 posts set in postcrete and then attach the joists to those using coachbolts.

Seeding an existing garden lawn for the 1st time

Hi Dave, I remember doing the same in my last house, removed all the dead stuff and was worried I'd done the wrong thing and should have just left it alone. Saying that, once i did it all and the grass was a couple of months old it looked lovely, best lawn I've had. I think the rolling...

Best way to build base for log cabin in sloped garden?

Hi, How about building a deck type platform. Set 4x4 posts into holes with postcrete and then attach the joists to those with coachbolts. Relatively quick and simple to do. I did it for my kid's playhouse, although it's not quite as big as 12ft. :-)

Garden shed base - lay concrete directly on the grass?

Will probably be shot down on this idea and your size of shed may be a bit big for this but here it is for what it's worth... When I moved and took the kid's wooden playhouse with me I dug holes and concreted in 4x4 posts and then attached 2x6 (maybe 2x4, can't remember) to these with coach...

    Smallest Gap Between Spindles

Thanks vm. Yep keeping the newel posts white as we quite like the contrast as we'd seen it when planning to do it. Plus a lot less effort having to cut them down and add new etc. Still need to fill a few bits and paint them so they'll hopefully look a lot nicer when finished.

    Smallest Gap Between Spindles

Thanks mate. Took a bit of time, did the set on the landing one day and thought it best to start with the easy ones. 😀 Then did the rise on Saturday. My wife commented on how little I swore while doing it, she was very surprised! I did get halfway up fitting the spindles, glueing...

    Smallest Gap Between Spindles

Finally got round to putting the new rails and spindles in. Went for a 75mm gap in the end..... after a hell of a lot of time spent on the calculator and drawing lines on the baserail to check, holding up spindles etc! Still need to fill, sand and paint the newel posts..... Before...

    Smallest Gap Between Spindles

thanks gents. That was my assumption, the old Victorian ones would go down to the step but with a riser you might get away with it. I'll put a couple up temporally and see what they look like before I decide. Don't want to cut all the fillets and then realise it looks naff! :-) Cheers...

    Smallest Gap Between Spindles

Hi all, Going to be installing a new handrail, baserail and spindles on our staircase as currently it's a panel and looks terrible. From reading what the website says where I ordered the wood it says to have two spindles per tread. Measuring it all out the other night it makes the spindle...
