Replacing fence posts set in wall

Thanks The idea of cutting a channel seems interesting. I was thinking of just trimming the whole side off but cutting a channel would help to keep the post more upright and stable while the cement sets. Thanks

Replacing fence posts set in wall

Thanks. I'm not worried about getting the old posts out at all. I think they are rotten to the bottom but if not I will try your suggestion. Main issue is that I expect there will only be 2 or 3 mm clearance after I slot the new post into the existing concrete hole. That seems too small to me...

Replacing fence posts set in wall

This is the other side of the fence. The posts don't go in to the ground at all. The new posts will sit in the existing 100 mm concrete hole inside the wall. My issue is how to get new 100 mm posts to sit tight in the holes. I'm now thinking I will buy 100 mm posts but trim them to 75mm where...

Replacing fence posts set in wall

Thanks John but that isn't really on option to put posts in to the ground. The area shown in the photo doesn't belong to me so I can't put anything on that side. The other side has a 4-6 foot drop to the ground. The new posts have to go into the wall, into the existing holes, the question is...

Replacing fence posts set in wall

This is the wall. My house is on the left and the path shown leads to houses. I don't actually own the fence but it has been like this for years so I want to get it sorted as no-one knows who owns it. The posts go about 40 cm into the wall. The wood is very rotten so I will be able to remove...

Replacing fence posts set in wall

I have 6 fence posts that have been set in the brick of a retaining wall. The posts are rotten below the brick level. Any ideas on how to replace the 100 mm posts. I suspect when I take them out it will leave a nice slot about 105mm wide to get new posts in but it will wobble and bit and there...

    2 port valve partial fault

Thanks oilhead. I just took the head off and the valve stem seemed a little stiff about halfway. I worked it a few times with the pliers and it loosened up. The head is back on and it seems to be working perfectly at the moment. Hopefully is won't seize up again. Thanks for the tip.

    2 port valve partial fault

Hi I have a honeywell 2 port valve. When the hot water is called for, the synchron motor works and opens the valve but the lever stops just short of the micro switch so the boiler does not fire up. If I give it a little push with my finger the hot water comes on. I was going to replace the...

    WC pan connector

OK. It does't look like there is any pipe in the socket at the moment so I guess I need to take it apart and see. So, if there is no pipe inside the socket, I just need to buy a short length of waste pipe and a standard pan connector?

    WC pan connector

I have a leak form the seal between my pan and pan connector. I used plumbers mait a few months ago which helped but it is leaking again so I want to replace the pan connector. I was looking this morning and I'm not sure which type of joint I have. I was expecting to see the pan connector...

    Bathroom lighting

Thanks RF Lighting The bathroom is only used to bath our baby daughter at the moment and we take showers in another room so the moisture so be pretty low. I think I'm willing to take the risk on the corrosion aspect but I wanted to get opinion on whether the lights are safe and legal to...

    Bathroom lighting

OK thanks for clearing that up. I want to make sure that I have safe lights in the bathroom but was after something a bit more interesting than the normal bathroom lights. I have found a low voltage wire suspended spot system (12V GU 5.3 bulbs). It isn't specified with an IP rating but is...

    Bathroom lighting

Thanks guys but I'm still a bit confused. When does the 3m rule come in to play? My ceiling is more than 2.25 m so I thought the zones would extend up to my ceiling and I would therefore be in zone 2?

    Bathroom lighting

Hi I trying to choose some bathroom lighting but can't fully understand the bathroom lighting zones. Can anyone please help? The light will need to go about 30 cms away from the edge of the bath and 2.4m from the floor (on the ceiling). All the diagrams I can find show that if I am not...
