    House wiring check

Get a spark in to do a Periodic Inspection Report. This'll give you a good idea of the state of the installation, and a good spark would be able to give a rough quote for any work needed.

At least you won't turn up to do an EIC with an infra-red sensor ready to fit!

Lighting - 1.5mm2 or 1mm2 for switched line?

That's a very good point, Ban. It's one of the anomalies that results from the regs still permitting these daft ring circuits - hopefully when the 18th edition comes along someone at the IET will have the balls (or ovaries) to finally ditch ring finals. As an aside, would it be deemed...

Lighting - 1.5mm2 or 1mm2 for switched line?

1.0mm will be fine for 10amps as long as it's not completely surrounded by thermal insulation. But if you really want to go to town then by all means, use 1.5mm

Lighting - 1.5mm2 or 1mm2 for switched line?

The protective device must be sized to protect the smallest size cable used in the circuit - so if you're going to use 1.0mm for the switch drops, you may as well do the whole lot in 1.0mm. (I know what you're thinking - there'll only be one luminaire on the end of each 1.0mm, but the rules...

    Downlighters in suspended ceiling

They have 100w lamps in them? You have 1.7kW of lighting in your bathroom? That is pretty foolish, I must admit. A 500w floodlight will light a garden, 1700w in a bathroom? That's nearly as much power as a two-bar electric fire!

    CSU Cabling

Erm, no. That will be because one of them has an internal fault causing the casing to become live, but also is not earthed properly thus there is no fault current to blow the fuse. This is serious sh1t and will kill you or a family member if you don't get it fixed ASAP. Why on earth are you...

Help please wiring a ceiling light pull

Something's amiss here Shazza. :? For two-way switching to work you need THREE wires connected to each switch. Did it work properly beforehand? ie you could turn the light on OR off with EITHER switch? Can you upload a few photos of what you have at each switch?

Help please wiring a ceiling light pull

You need to take the wall switch off and have a look there. Whatever is in L1 and L2 on the wall switch, connect the same on the pull switch, then put the remaining wire in COM, and the CPC ('earth wire') to the earth terminal (if it has one) 8)
