    quick simple question about shelves

Lovely, I thought so, just wanted to check that all the weight pulling to one side wouldn't be an issue. Couldn't see how but wanted to make sure.

    quick simple question about shelves

I'm installing a bunch of bookshelves about 2.2m long, supported by cast iron brackets of the type pictured. I've done five brackets per shelf at about 400 on centre, both because under load the brackets flex a little on account of their shape, and also to hopefully spread out and reduce the...

Tiling on skim coat and plasterboard

Hi -- I have a very quick question about substrates. I've got two backsplashes for tiling, one that's had a skim coat and one that's 9mm plasterboard mounted on battens (to even out a very uneven wall for installing the cabinets). The tiles are 8mm thick, so about 18kg / m2 without adhesive...

    Plumbing in dishwasher

Is this what I need? -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08HLZ392Q?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image I had been told that 3/4in and 22mm were interchangeable.

    Plumbing in dishwasher

I'm installing an Ikea dishwasher and I'm having a hell of a time with the input hose. They said it's a 3/4in connection, so I put a 22mm reducing coupler on my 15mm pipe. But the plastic connector barely fits on it, it's very difficuot to twist on, and I worry if I try too hard to get it on I'm...

    Insulating old house

Really glad to hear you've had a good experience. The plan is to have an air source heat pump, so those areas where I can make a lot of changes (the downstairs floors, the walls of the new extension, etc) are very well insulated; there will be underfloor heating throughout the downstairs, and...

    Insulating old house

Hi -- I'm renovating an old property. It's a former agricultural building, about a hundred years old, and the walls are two skins of brick (well, brick and mixed rubble and other junk) faced with flint in lime mortar. It needs proper insulation, but I'm conscious that there can be moisture...

    Installing kitchen

Mental, my computer logged me in to my old account whose password I forgot, then logged me in again to my new account. I'm the guy with the filthy kitchen above.

    Installing kitchen

We're keeping the layout pretty similar to the old one, so it won't take too long to get the pipes in order, thankfully. There will need to be two new outlets, one for the dishwasher -- at bottom right, by the back door -- and one for the fridge, on the left. Both can come down through the...

    Small DPM question

Haha I just do what I'm told ... building control said to put a 'small section' of A124 mesh around the pipes where they come through the insulation before I pour the slab -- mentioned this to a builder and he just laughed ---

    Small DPM question

Hi -- small question about a DPM for an extension. I installed the DPM on hardcore and sand blinding, then 150mm insulation boards over that, then a further DPM over that, then poured the slab this morning. It's awkwardly placed so there was a lot of raking the concrete along to get it from the...

replacing clay pipe into inspection chamber?

I need to make a small change to the direction of a soil pipe as it enters a sturdy old brick inspection chamber (private sewer, on my property). I've dug down past the bottom of the pipe; it's bedded in a large bit of incredibly hard concrete on the outside where it enters the chamber...

    asbestos?

Hi all -- checking in to say that the lab got back and it wasn't asbestos. Thanks for all the help above!

    asbestos?

Fair enough -- I've never come across this material before (not like any plasterboard I've seen) and I've never come across asbestos either, the location and unfamiliarity made me suspicious so I was freaking out a bit!

    asbestos?
