Can I charge for small electrical jobs?

Even if you take out insurance, in the event of a claim, the insurance company would probably try to get out of paying by asking you to prove that you are competent to carry out this work, which, without test equipment and qualifications, you would struggle with :(

PART P, ive got an interesting one.

Are you sure it's not a termination of a cooker extractor or similar, I can't think of any reason to have any part of the installation go out into a "box" like this, any chance of a photo?

PART P, ive got an interesting one.

Could be an IP rated adaptable box, not sure it could be conceived as being dangerous if that was the case, not sure why it would be there, whenever I work on a place where I may have to stray onto a neighbours property, I make sure it has been sorted between neighbours first, preferably whilst...

    CHANGING A DOMESTIC FUSE BOARD

unfortunately I have to agree, this is not the sort of job a DIYer should be attempting without at least a very large amount of skill, at one time this job could have been done by anyone with a bit of common sense, but I, along with many others who offer advice on here spend a lot of time...

PART P, ive got an interesting one.

any circuit alterations within the dwelling would only result in the owner of "that" dwelling being issued with the relavent certificates normally, someone from that property must have given the sparky permission to put the box where it is so I would imagine the argument is purely with the...

    B&Q trade Card - WARNING

I tried going in to pick up some MK Sentry breakers from their catalogue, took the money off me without telling me they didn't have any of em in stock, could take up to a week to get them, (local wholesalers don't stock them either), customer specified sentry board, I demanded, rather loudly...

Electrician to test sockets? Scam or not??

Firstly, 1, the guy should have spotted the main bonding issues whilst having a quick look round for quoting purposes, I ALWAYS CHECK! 2, I also always suggest a PIR before swapping a CU, many of the same tests would be performed anyway for the EIC 3, I usually offer a reduction on...

"well il tell you what get your self a yard an you can tell your employes to park it there of a night at your cost. my drive is not a advertising joint for your company!" works two ways mate, then you'd have to use your own transport to get to work in the morning

    Boiler repair gone wrong

if he's tracked it down to not picking up the call for heat signal, someone should be able to sort that out without replacing the whole loom, these things are not rocket science

    Waterwheel!

instead of steel oil drums, what about plastic 45 gallon drums, cut in half and bolted together end to end, perhaps with some re-enforcing, plastic won't rust or rot

    Compressor choice

you can run a nail gun from a very small compressor, unless you're firing it every second or so, sanders & spray guns etc require 14cfm (ish), a 10cfm with a 50litre tank will do a lot of what you seem to be need, but I do prefer a belt drive so if either the motor or pump die, they can be...

    Slight glow from LED's

Hi folks just fitted some lights in a loft, 3 fittings on one switch (2 way), one fitting on one way, the 3 fittings on the 2 way circuit have a very slight glow when switched off, the 3 core for the 2 way only runs along side another lighting cable for about 600mm so I can't see...

    Boiler repair gone wrong

"Had a problem with my boiler which was diagnosed as a faulty fan". Erm, not quite sure I understand, it does read as tho this is your boiler, would be handy to know what the boiler so someone MAY come up with a remedy to your problem as an alternative to paying for a replacement, 1, what...

    Boiler repair gone wrong

maybe the guy could have given the boiler a once over before trying to fix it, but if anything at all, he may feel obliged to repay some of what he charged to fit the new fan, but I doubt it, how many garages replace several parts on a car before narrowing a fault down, and then won't refund you...

When do you walk off the job?

I get a bit jittery any time anyone mentions doing 2nd fix on someone else's work anyway, if they've had another spark I usually ask who it was and say that I'll need to speak to them first, usually chucks a spanner in the works at the first phone call, saves time!!
