    Emergency lighting Smoke alarms

Okay thanks very much for the informative quick replies Mr Lectrician and Mr UK sorry electronics I meant 6A I dunno where I got 3 from but isn't it that if the smoke alarms are connected to the light circuit then their non mains powered time would be minimal and the risk of them having no power...

    Emergency lighting Smoke alarms

Hello if I want to wire up 3 mains smoke alarms (interconnected) would I use 1mm 3 core and earth and a separate 3A MCB? I'm thinking I'd rather connect the smoke alarms to the landing ceiling rose that way if the smoke alarms lose supply I'll know because the lights will go out. Is it okay to...

    Downlights 20w and 50w fitting

thanks dippy I was thinking of getting some JCC transformers with 35w minimum load but am I correct in thinking the minimum load isn't a problem unless say with 4 20w lights on a transformer 3 of them go out it's only a matter of replacing the bulbs right? Also if you have say a 120W max...

Hiya, electronicsuk what would you class as the heavy 2 gauge cable you mentioned? I assume you mean 2.5mm cable? Is 1mm cable okay for wiring between trannys and downlights (even if say I wired 3 or 4 in serial looped) and which cable thickness is used for wiring between ceiling rose and...

    Sand and Cement, Render, Screed

thanks for the reply fat I've heard you're supposed to apply finish plaster about a day after final coat of render or if after that then dampen wall first must be why you had problems with finish hope it worked out (also next time try not washing the comb first you could start a new fashion...

    Concrete Slab Insulation

Hello if I lay polystyrene insulation (25mm) upright against the walls for a concrete floor slab as required by building regs then which height do they go to? Do I lay them to the same height as the concrete then screed over them in level with the concrete? Is it okay to screed directly over...

Bathroom timer extractor manual control switch

Okay thank you very much Mr Softus and all who contributed appreciate it :D
  14. Q

Bathroom timer extractor manual control switch

Well the fact that you are willing to be rude to a large degree shows that your argument is too weak to argue logically which is all I have asked for from what you say people wouldn't change a lightbulb that had 2 separate switches to it. It's nothing to do with luck there's an element of risk...
  15. Q

Bathroom timer extractor manual control switch

Oh I take your point about someone mistaking the switch for an isolator that's a valid point but hopefully I don't think anyone would try to do anything with the fan without checking for a 3p isolator by the bathroom door (which would be labelled) they could clearly see that turning the light on...
  16. Q

Bathroom timer extractor manual control switch

Okay thanks Sparky but you still haven't provided an explanation of how it's not safe because the isolation switch comes first then the switch hence if the isolation switch is off there is NO electricity to even the switch let alone the fan
  17. Q

    sand and cement

OK Roy C thanks I was just thinking I'll put water proofer (called rendamix) in the float coat as well eliminating the need to use any mortisciser and extra waterproofing do you think I shouldn't do that then? Thanks Very Much :D

  19. Q

    sand and cement

one more q I'm going to put in waterproofer in the render because it's on a removed chimney breast and don't want any problems with hygroscopic salts (absorbing rainwater from external side of wall) should I put in waterproofer in both coats or scratch coat only (don't want to use lime have no...
