Two rads in one room, but only one TRV

I think some of the newer boilers have something built in to prevent needing 1 radiator to be TRV-less. We've just had a combi installed, and every radiator in the house has a TRV. I'll still leave the hall radiator TRV turned up to max just in case...

Combi boiler delivers hot water then luke warm

Blimey, what level of service did she have? I have just cancelled my BG homecare due to having a new boiler installed earlier this week, and that was £7 a month.

    which boiler

I had a new combi installed on Monday, and after a lot of research into Worcester, Vaillant, Idealogic, I chose a Viessmann.

    water pressure through a combi

Hot water flow was back to it was last evening, and lower again this morning, so definitely seems to be down to local pressure. I need to calculate the cold water flow rate at these times with a jug and a bucket to see how much they change. The wife had her first bath last night, tap open...

    water pressure through a combi

Maybe, but then I went in to check and opened it fully and it stayed ice cold for a couple of minutes until I stopped it, waited 5 secs, and restarted. Like you say, only happened the once and the boiler had only been installed 5 hours at that point so may just be teething problems. I had been...

    water pressure through a combi

The basin taps are relatively new, quarter turn type with a spray type nozzle. Flow from the hot water tap is now very good. Too good in fact, the basin is small so if the tap is fully open water splashes absolutely everywhere.

    water pressure through a combi

Yep that's great thanks. Just wanted to check I haven't ended up with a blockage in the hot water pipes to the bath. Another question... I had one occurrence (it was my son shouting "why's there no hot water") where the bathroom sink hot tap just was running cold. Left it a couple of...

    water pressure through a combi

Ok, so second question... why? ;) From what I've read, the heat exchanger simply heats the water passing through it, so I would expect it to pass through at full mains pressure if the tap is open full whack (obviously not heating up as much), so where in the system is the flow rate to the hot...

    water pressure through a combi

I've just had my first combi boiler installed, always had gravity before, so have to come to grips with a different way of operating. Particularly with the DHW. My first question.. Now that the hot water is mains powered, should the flow rate at the hot bath tap be identical to the cold tap...

    pebble in mains before stopcock

Red handle was only one they had in B+Q. Pushfit I happened to have in my box of bits. Now it's easy to remove I can have a better go when I have more time. The worst bit was getting the old one off.

    pebble in mains before stopcock

That did the trick. 3/4 inch conversion olive worked a treat with 22m compression. Although it turned out the old 3/4 inch mains pipe only had an 11m internal bore anyway, so couldn't find an insert that would fit but with the pipe walls as thick as that, I doubt an insert is needed. Quite...

    pebble in mains before stopcock

I cut away the back of the cupboard to get a closer look. Turns out the mains is black plastic 22m with a threaded connector, and not really sure what's going on at the top end as it seems to be 22mm for an inch then down to 15mm. Oh and now I can get right in, if I put my ear against it when...

    pebble in mains before stopcock

Isn't the incoming mains 22mm and garden hoses about 15mm? In which case whatever it is may pass through a garden hose, and attaching it could be tricky. It's behind a kitchen cupboard and only the actual tap bit sticks out through a cutout, so I'm not 100% sure the diameters of the pipes...

    pebble in mains before stopcock

It's copper. Something wrong with the stopcock was my other thought, seeing as it doesn't stop the water completely. I'm changing the stopcock anyway so it may just go away.

    pebble in mains before stopcock

Hi all, I think I've got something in the mains water supply just before the stopcock, like a pebble or suchlike that's probably too big to fit through. The mains pipe comes into the kitchen, bends upwards for about 8 inches then it's the stopcock. Whenever any cold water is running...

Ignition rod sparking in wrong place

Interesting.. Yes there was a glass fibre sleeve over the wire, but the flame sensor wire has also been put through this sleeve which means because they diverge (flame sensor at back, igniter at the front) the cables are bare again for the few inches up to the ceramic rods. Maybe the flame...

Ignition rod sparking in wrong place

Cheers, nice and simple explanation. Still, had enough with this one now so it's time for a new one.

Ignition rod sparking in wrong place

The saga with my aging Halstead Best 50 continues, but not for long. Got lots of independents coming this week to give me quotes for a boiler replacement as I've finally had enough. So this is a theoretical question as I'm almost certainly not going to bother fixing it... Had someone in to...

length of time from gas valve open to flame

I paid the money for the parts cover to be honest, £3 month is peanuts and I've already had several hundreds of pounds more in return than I've invested. It's just that I have to rely on them to diagnose and replace correctly. I think I've had the fan (£180), pump (£200), gas valve (£300)...
